Direct Support Professional (DSP), Community Participation Supports

About the role

A Direct Support Professional (DSP) in Community Participation Supports assists adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in building independence, confidence, and meaningful connections. Duties include encouraging independence, providing support with daily living skills, fostering strong relationships, and collaborating with team members, families, and supervisors.

Responsibilities

• Encourage independence, self-advocacy, and everyday decision-making
• Provide support with daily living skills, personal care, and hygiene
• Build strong relationships through thoughtful, effective communication
• Follow individualized support plans and document progress
• Assist with adaptive equipment, therapies, and skill-building activities
• Help plan and participate in social, recreational, and community experiences
• Collaborate with team members, families, and supervisors to ensure a safe, supportive environment

Requirements

• Entry level, training provided
• A valid driver’s license and 6 months driving experience
• 18 years of age
• Access to a vehicle with valid insurance, registration, and inspection
• Ability to communicate, read, write, and understand the English language
• Preferred previous experience as a Personal Care Aide, Caregiver, Direct Support Professional (DSP), or Direct Care Worker
• Preferred knowledge of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and/or autism

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Valid driver’s license
• Passing score on a background check

Skills

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Knowledge of disability-related issues and resources

Benefits

• $17.00 per hour, up to $17.75 per hour with NADSP DSP certification(s)

Schedule

• Full-time 30+ hours per week, Monday- Friday 8:45 am - 3:45 pm
• Full-time 30+ hours per week, Monday- Friday 8:30 am - 3:30 pm
