About the role
The Association for Individual Development (AID) is a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering individuals with various challenges to live dignified and purposeful lives. We are seeking a Direct Support Professional who embodies our mission and is committed to making a positive impact in the community.
Responsibilities
- Maintain a team approach in working with clients, staff, and external agencies.
- Implement specific programs outlined in the Individual Plan or Implementation Strategy, and document services provided according to program procedures.
- Familiarize and adhere to all agency and program rules and regulations.
- Report concerns or issues to the immediate supervisor promptly.
- Plan and prepare meals based on menus and recipes provided by a dietician, taking into account client input and assistance.
- Attend to the self-care needs of clients, including toileting assistance, changing soiled garments, bathing, grooming, shaving, cleaning glasses and adaptive equipment, etc.
- Obtain and administer medication as authorized, and ensure proper documentation and adherence to policies.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment, both inside and outside the home, by reporting safety concerns, managing repairs, and participating in safety drills.
- Provide transportation for clients, using either a personal or agency vehicle, for work, shopping, appointments, social events, etc.
- Monitor and relay information during medical appointments, and attend all required meetings, shifts, and trainings.
- Assist in the orientation and training of new staff, plan and implement community and in-house activities, conduct client input meetings, and facilitate training sessions.
- Take verbal and written directions and complete job responsibilities with minimal supervision.
- May be responsible for independent building coverage, including safety and supervision of all clients, per program needs.
Requirements
- High School education or GED.
- Experience working with developmentally disabled adults is preferred.
- Physical abilities to climb stairs daily, push/pull, reach, stoop/bend over, use step stools, and perform daily housekeeping tasks.
- Ability to physically assist clients in situations such as getting in/out of van, bathtub, shower, or bed.
- Knowledge of behavior support strategies and emergency response protocols.
- Computer skills including Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and Teams; Zoom platform and application; Internet browser; Microsoft SharePoint platform; household appliances; alarm systems; telephone and voicemail; office equipment; and adaptive equipment as defined in individual strategies.
- Valid Illinois driver's license and access to a personal cell phone with secure messaging capabilities.
Qualifications
- Pass S-TOFHLA literacy test.
- Complete required DSP and Medication Administration Training, including CPR, First Aid, Infection Control, OIG Rule 50, and CPI.
- Maintain medication administration authorization by following all policies and procedures.
- Evening, weekend, overnight, and holiday hours are required.
