Direct Support Professional (DSP) serving individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in residential homes in Montgomery and Bucks Counties. Frontline caregivers help residents stay safe and healthy while assisting with activities of daily living, respecting their dignity and individuality.
Responsibilities
- Provide quality care that promotes individuals' rights, dignity, comfort, and privacy.
- Encourage growth and development, including goal achievement, through warm and caring interactions.
- Assist with personal needs such as grooming, bathing, oral hygiene, feeding, incontinent care, toileting, transferring, ambulation, and range of motion.
- Promptly report incidents, abuse, unusual events, or violations of residents' rights to appropriate personnel.
- Assist individuals using lifts, transfers, and safety techniques, including mechanical lifting devices.
- Provide medical assistance, including administering medicine, first aid, CPR, and the Heimlich maneuver as trained.
- Maintain general upkeep of the group home: housekeeping, grocery shopping, meal preparation, and laundry.
- Transport individuals to daily activities, medical appointments, errands, and community activities, handling stressful situations while driving.
- Follow safety and infection control procedures, including hand washing, use of disposable gloves, and proper disposal of soiled materials.
- Communicate effectively with individuals served, visitors, families, peers, and supervisors.
- Participate in one-on-one meetings, staff meetings, and annual program plan meetings.
- Respond to staff shortages by assisting in other homes or programs as assigned.
- Complete 24 hours of required training annually.
- Support program/department operations, including special projects and additional training as required.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Previous experience providing hands-on care to adults with developmental disabilities preferred but not required.
- Ability to read and write in English; moderate mathematics skills.
- Proficient interpersonal and communication skills.
- Valid driver’s license with a clear three-year driving record.
- Ability to perform physical duties: frequent walking, standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, and lifting up to 40 pounds (occasionally up to 50 pounds, including client transfers).
- Satisfactory completion of post-offer pre-employment physical exam and drug test.
- Skills to safely operate office equipment, time clock systems, vehicles, mechanical lifts, adjustable chairs/beds, wheelchairs, household appliances, shower equipment, and other supplies.
- Completion and clearance of a criminal background check and child abuse clearance.
