About the role

The Direct Support Professional 19 (DSP 19) provides school-based psychiatric rehabilitation services to youth with mental health needs at Pretty Boy Elementary School in Baltimore County. This role supports clients in developing coping skills, emotional regulation, social functioning, and school-related life skills to improve overall functioning and academic engagement. Services are delivered according to each client’s Individualized Rehabilitation Plan (IRP) and documented in Medicaid-compliant progress notes.

Responsibilities

  • Provide one-on-one PRP skill-building sessions in the school setting.
  • Support development of emotional regulation, coping strategies, and social skills.
  • Assist clients with school-related functional skills and age-appropriate activities of daily living (ADLs).
  • Reinforce recovery-oriented goals outlined in the IRP.
  • Deliver billable PRP services according to assigned schedule and service authorizations.
  • Submit accurate, timely progress notes in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) in real time or before the end of each service day.
  • Use correct service codes for all PRP sessions:
    • PRP Group off-site (H2016-15)
    • PRP Group on-site (H2016-52)
    • PRP Individual off-site (H2016-15)
    • PRP Individual on-site (H2016-52)
  • Maintain Medicaid minimum service delivery requirements:
    • Minors: Minimum 3 PRP sessions per month
    • Adults: Minimum 6 PRP sessions per month
  • Follow all Scheduling Department procedures and communicate availability for client scheduling.
  • Respond to emerging student needs during the school day.
  • Participate in trainings, supervision, and interdisciplinary team meetings.
  • Assist clients during urgent community needs (e.g., housing crises, legal matters, emergency appointments).
  • Support engagement efforts including wellness events and outreach.
  • Report client safety concerns immediately to supervisors.
  • Maintain HIPAA, confidentiality, and trauma-informed practices.
  • Collaborate weekly with the client’s therapist and RN case manager and submit a collaboration note in the EHR.

Schedule

This is a structured, school-based Fee-for-Service position aligned with client authorizations and school schedules. The assigned caseload consists of 10 clients:

  • 5 clients seen three times per week (Monday, Wednesday, Friday)
  • 5 clients seen two times per week (Tuesday, Thursday)

Consistent availability is required to meet assigned service schedules and Medicaid requirements. Services are delivered exclusively on-site at Pretty Boy Elementary School, with minimal travel required.

Pay

Compensation for this position ranges from $15.00 to $25.00 per hour, commensurate with experience, expertise, verified credentials, and available company budget.

Benefits

W-2 Fee-for-Service Employees are eligible for company-sponsored benefits in accordance with agency policy and plan availability. 1099 Fee-for-Service Employees are not eligible for company-sponsored benefits and are responsible for their own taxes, insurance, and benefits.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required. For those working with minors, at least a bachelor’s degree is required.
  • At least 1 year of experience working in behavioral health, social services, or human services preferred.
  • Must pass a background check and complete PRP observation by supervisor (20 hours) and 40 hours of training.
  • CPR/First Aid certification required (or must be obtained within 30 days of hire).
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation strongly preferred.
  • Ability to complete and submit timely, accurate progress notes using required PRP service codes.

Physical Demands

  • Frequent walking throughout school buildings.
  • Ability to stand, sit, and move between classrooms.
  • Ability to lift up to 20 lbs.
  • Ability to respond appropriately to behavioral situations.
  • Use of PPE as required.
