Direct Support INTERN

About the role

The Direct Support Intern–Per Diem Direct Support Professional position is based in Albany, NY. Interns work as part of a team responsible for the daily well‑being and safety of individuals with intellectual and other developmental disabilities in a residential community home or day habilitation setting. They operate under supervised and restricted access, always in the presence and under the direct supervision of fully qualified staff, and may serve as ambassadors at job fairs and recruitment events when interested.

Responsibilities

• Ensure the daily well‑being and safety of individuals served.
• Work under the direct supervision of qualified staff at all times.
• Act as an ambassador at job fairs and recruitment events when available or interested.
• Complete all required clearance requirements and mandatory training.
• Submit a transfer request to remain employed by WWAARC after meeting eligibility criteria.
• Be available to work during school breaks and/or holidays.
• Work various shifts as dictated by program needs.

Requirements

• Be 16‑18 years old and currently enrolled in high school, OR be 16‑17 years old and a high school graduate.
• Possess NYS working papers if 16‑17 years old.
• Successfully complete all pre‑screening and training requirements mandated by regulation.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or current high school student within the specified age ranges.

Skills

• Effective verbal and written communication.
• Basic computer proficiency.
• Experience or interest in working with people with intellectual and other developmental disabilities.

$17.00 per hour

Schedule

Various shifts depending on program needs; expected availability during school breaks and/or holidays.
