Job Summary

Baylor Scott & White Medical Center - Sunnyvale is seeking a Medical-Surgical/Telemetry Nursing Director to oversee the clinical, operational, and fiscal performance of all designated units.

About the Role

This position oversees the execution of short and long term strategies to support organizational goals pertinent to the Baylor Scott & White- Sunnyvale campus, establishes and ensures compliance with standards of clinical care, and maintains accountability for staffing, quality, safety, service and clinical excellence throughout these areas.

Responsibilities

• Provides leadership to managers and/or frontline level professional staff
• Accountable for the performance and results of multiple teams performing related activities
• Develops long-term plans and strategies for area of defined responsibility aligned with established functional strategies, and works with subordinate managers to operationalize and execute the strategy
• Communicates priorities and expectations, monitors progress, and provides direction and course corrections
• Analyzes key trends and input from individuals in the team to make meaningful changes that directly and significantly affect short-term results
• Establishes budgets and holds self and subordinate managers accountable for managing to achieve expected financial results
• Demonstrates the ability to promote the hospital strategic mission, vision and values by ensuring the direction of the individual departments within sphere of influence
• Works on cross functional teams to develop and implement solutions that have a broad impact on the organization's operations and processes
• Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized and function well under stressful situations
• Consults other departments as appropriate to provide true collaboration in patient care and performance improvement activities
• Maintains performance improvement activities for department
• Provides education to staff on performance improvement
• Responsible for the direction of the Education Department and nursing area staff
• Supports and empowers staff to embrace the mission and value statement of the organization
• Develops and directs orientation programs, inservices and continuing education for all organization personnel
• Maintains a good working relationship with all departments of the organization
• Coordinates the required inservices annually, i.e., safety, fire/emergency preparedness, infection control, basic cardiac life support
• Performs management activities per role delineation and in the absence of the Chief Nursing Officer
• Aids the Chief Nursing Officer in the development of a professional nursing staff
• Incorporates Magnet principles into practice, mentors staff in use of evidence based practice and research as well as developing a research and clinical advancement program for nursing staff

Qualifications

• Graduate from an accredited school of nursing; baccalaureate degree, Masters preferred
• Current state licensed Registered Nurse Licensure
• 3 or more years of previous experience in all aspects of management experience in area of expertise
• AHA BLS is required, national certification in area of expertise preferred
• Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing
• Additional languages preferred
• Basic computer knowledge
