About the role

The University of Georgia is seeking a skilled craftsperson to join the Dining Services team as a Repair Technician. This position is responsible for troubleshooting and repairing commercial kitchen equipment, performing general building maintenance tasks, and conducting preventative maintenance for dining facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and repair commercial kitchen equipment utilizing schematics and manuals to complete task.
  • Perform inspections and preventative maintenance on all commercial kitchen equipment.
  • Complete and maintain service reports and parts order forms.
  • Perform a wide variety of mechanical and building trade tasks in the maintenance and repair of Dining Services facilities including plumbing, electrical work, painting, simple construction and fabrication.
  • Perform inspections and preventative maintenance for all Dining facilities.
  • If needed, submit work orders to the Facilities Management Division (FMD).
  • Assist with special projects for building and equipment maintenance.
  • Participate in training sessions and departmental meetings and provide feedback and input to improve departmental policies and procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

Requires technical knowledge in the field acquired through an apprenticeship, formal training programs, or on-the-job training. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications.

Qualifications

  • Physical Demands: Climb stairs and ladders, may work from a ladder or scaffold. Bend at the waist and knees. Work with arms and hands overhead for an extended period. Use, care and maintain hand tools and power tools. Navigate and maneuver through confined spaces, crawling in utility tunnels, attics, pipe chases, etc. Lift and move items of 75 pounds in weight, both assisted and unassisted. May occasionally perform work related duties outdoors in hot or cold temperature conditions. Safely operate a UGA state vehicle, as necessary.

Benefits

This position offers a 40 hour work week. Hours and schedule may vary to include nights as well as some weekends as needed to meet departmental goals, deadlines and/or emergencies. This position is also part of an on-call rotating schedule.

Pay

The starting salary for this position ranges from $31,500 to $40,000 per year, commensurate with experience.
