About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and strategic Digital Marketing Specialist to join our team. This role is instrumental in developing, executing, and optimizing digital marketing initiatives that elevate SCN’s mission awareness, enhance community engagement, support fundraising efforts, and broaden organizational outreach. The successful candidate will manage day-to-day marketing operations across various digital platforms, including social media, email, and web, ensuring consistent brand messaging and impactful content delivery. This position requires a blend of creative content creation, analytical insight, and strategic planning, with responsibilities spanning campaign management, audience growth, performance analysis, and collaboration with internal teams and external creative partners. While our main office is located in Chicago, remote work arrangements are available for qualified candidates outside the area.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, public relations, journalism, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in digital marketing or related roles, preferably within nonprofit or government sectors
  • Proficiency with marketing and design tools such as Canva Pro, Mailchimp, and Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign)
  • Experience in designing and executing successful messaging and marketing campaigns across paid, earned, owned, and social media channels
  • Knowledge of SEO best practices and experience optimizing digital content for search engines
  • Strong familiarity with social media platforms including LinkedIn, X (formerly Twitter), and Instagram, with the ability to create, publish, and evaluate content
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience analyzing marketing performance metrics and leveraging data to enhance campaign effectiveness
  • Experience with WordPress or similar content management systems preferred
  • Video editing skills using tools like Adobe Premier Pro, Final Cut Pro, or Veed are a plus
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple projects independently or collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to make sound decisions with tact and professionalism
  • Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends, and willingness to travel as needed

Responsibilities

  • Plan, develop, and execute comprehensive digital marketing campaigns from concept to deployment, including content creation, audience targeting, and performance optimization
  • Create, review, and edit engaging content such as social media posts, newsletters, press releases, media statements, website updates, and organizational reports that reflect SCN’s mission and values
  • Manage and maintain a digital content calendar, coordinating with various departments to ensure timely execution of marketing initiatives
  • Develop and implement social media strategies, including content curation, audience engagement, and performance tracking
  • Design visually compelling graphics, social media assets, email campaigns, and event materials using tools like Canva and Adobe Creative Suite
  • Build and deploy targeted email campaigns using Mailchimp, including newsletters, donor outreach, event promotions, and impact updates
  • Monitor and analyze email and social media performance metrics, such as open rates, click-throughs, and engagement levels, to inform future strategies
  • Maintain organized records of marketing assets, contact lists, and project documentation
  • Leverage analytics tools to identify trends, measure campaign success, and recommend improvements
  • Coordinate with external vendors, including graphic designers, videographers, and photographers, managing project timelines and deliverables
  • Ensure all marketing materials adhere to SCN’s brand identity and style standards
  • Support crisis communication efforts by delivering timely and coordinated messaging during security incidents
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support organizational goals
