Digital Delivery Manager – Transmission Planning & Power System Analysis

Facilitate and oversee digital services for the Transmission Planning and Power System Analysis (TP&PSA) business line, including automation management and development, tool and software assessments, and technology stack management and optimization.

About the role

Support the execution of projects across all offices within the business line, align with the digital strategy set by the Digital Delivery Director and business line leadership, develop high-performing teams, conduct quality reviews, and promote the Burns & McDonnell culture, values, and mission. The role reports directly to the Digital Delivery Director of the TP&PSA business line within 1898 & Co. and operates at a national level. A deep understanding of the power systems industry, specifically transmission planning studies and operations, is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Support the development and execution of the digital strategy for the TP&PSA business line.
  • Drive innovation through AI, digital tools, and automation technologies.
  • Maintain and actively develop core automation tools that support project execution, both directly and with the support of other staff.
  • Partner with project managers to identify and implement automation opportunities that improve project processes.
  • Support profitable growth of the business line, including pursuing new markets or products by establishing processes and best practices.
  • Provide strategic feedback to project managers on efficient project execution and achieve financial performance targets.
  • Manage and collaborate with business development managers, managing directors, and proposal staff on software management, procurement, and vendor partnerships.
  • Facilitate digital delivery coordination across regions, departments, and other business lines.
  • Coordinate best practice training regarding tools and automation for the business line.
  • Provide experienced technical guidance and mentorship to less experienced staff on technical and business aspects of projects.
  • Lead and direct team performance to ensure efficient, cost-effective project execution.
  • Document, publish, and maintain quality processes in alignment with core quality guidelines.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, technology, business, or related field and 7 years of related experience; or
  • Associate’s degree and 9 years of related experience; or
  • High School Diploma/GED and 11 years of related experience.
  • Strong understanding of consulting delivery models and professional services environments.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of planning tools, analytical platforms, automation frameworks, and emerging digital technologies.
  • Ability to apply artificial intelligence, programming, and automation solutions to improve consulting workflows and outcomes.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and systems-thinking skills.
  • Ability to integrate digital tools and processes into project execution without disrupting consulting delivery.
  • Excellent facilitation, collaboration, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to thoughtfully and positively influence, lead, and manage change across consulting teams.
  • Excellent planning and analytical skills with attention to both detail and overall business objectives.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present complex technical concepts clearly to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to mentor and develop others in technical and professional skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with project managers, business line leadership, and technical specialists.
  • Ability to learn, adapt, and apply new technologies in response to evolving client and market needs.

Skills

  • Deep and broad knowledge of electric transmission systems and transmission system planning processes.
  • Extensive experience with transmission planning, studies, and operations (e.g., load flow, short circuit, transient stability, electromagnetic transient studies).
  • Familiarity with transmission planning standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Strong experience with industry software such as PSS/E, TARA, PSLF, PSCAD, TSAT, and PowerWorld.
  • Strong programming skills in Python, C#, and other modern development languages.
  • Experience utilizing AI tools (e.g., OpenAI Codex, Anthropic Claude Code) to develop automation workflows.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage a transmission planning study with execution support from other staff.
  • Ability to develop, support, and manage automated workflows performing steady state and transient stability simulations using industry-standard software.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide independent evaluation, selection, adaptation, and modification of standard engineering techniques for electric transmission system planning.
  • Proven ability to lead, educate, and train a team of engineers and analysts in transmission system planning studies.
  • Proven ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams of engineers and analysts.
  • General business and financial calculation knowledge.
  • Effective project management skills and ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently, identifying critical path items to meet deliverable deadlines.
  • Ability to focus on the big picture while identifying and analyzing critical details for project outcomes.
  • Willingness to learn new service offerings and adapt to changing client needs and market demands.
  • Willingness to develop a broad set of service offerings for flexibility in pursuing work opportunities.
  • Willingness to cross-sell other services offered by Burns & McDonnell.
  • Willingness to negotiate with clients for new service agreements.
  • Strong people management, interpersonal, and project management skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to deal effectively with industry, government, and public contracts on project-related matters.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Professional registration preferred.

Pay

$160,000.00–260,000.00 yearly. The expected compensation range is based on individual education, qualifications, prior work experience, and work location. The total annual compensation package includes a base salary and eligibility to participate in a discretionary year-end incentive bonus program.
