About the Role

The Digital Delivery Manager will facilitate and oversee digital services for the Transmission Planning and Power System Analysis (TP&PSA) business line, including automation management and development, tool and software assessments, and technology stack management and optimization. This role supports project execution across all offices within the business line, aligns with business strategy set by leadership, develops high-performing teams, and promotes the Burns & McDonnell culture, values, and mission. The position reports directly to the Digital Delivery Director of the TP&PSA business line within 1898 & Co. and supports the business line on a national level.

A deep understanding of the power systems industry, specifically transmission planning studies and operations, is required to succeed in this role. The Digital Delivery Manager will drive automation management and development, explore new markets and services, establish best practices and training, and optimize the technology stack at the business line level.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership
    • Support the development and execution of the digital strategy for the TP&PSA business line.
    • Drive innovation through AI, digital tools, and automation technologies.
    • Support, maintain, and actively develop core automation tools for project execution within the business line.
  • Operational Integration
    • Partner with project managers to identify and implement automation opportunities to improve project processes.
    • Support profitable growth of the business line, including pursuing new markets or products by establishing processes and best practices.
    • Provide strategic feedback to project managers on efficient project execution.
    • Achieve stated targets and standards for financial performance.
  • Business Development
    • Manage and collaborate with business development managers, managing directors, business line leads, project managers, and proposal production staff on software management, procurement, and vendor partnerships.
  • Collaboration & Coordination
    • Facilitate digital delivery coordination across regions, departments, and other business lines.
    • Coordinate best practice training regarding tools and automation for the business line.
  • Leadership & Project Execution
    • Provide experienced technical guidance and support.
    • Mentor and train less experienced staff on technical and business aspects of projects and the industry; serve as a recognized industry leader in transmission planning.
    • Direct and review performance to ensure efficient, cost-effective execution of projects.
    • Provide leadership, guidance, and strategic one-on-one meetings with business line staff.
    • Document, publish, and maintain quality processes in alignment with core quality guidelines.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, technology, business, or related field and 7 years of related experience required.
  • OR Associate's degree and 9 years of related experience required.
  • OR High School Diploma/GED and 11 years of related experience required.
  • Strong understanding of consulting delivery models and professional services environments.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of planning tools, analytical platforms, automation frameworks, and emerging digital technologies.
  • Ability to apply artificial intelligence, programming, and automation solutions to improve consulting workflows and outcomes.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and systems-thinking skills.
  • Ability to integrate digital tools and processes into project execution without disrupting consulting delivery.
  • Strong facilitation, collaboration, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to thoughtfully and positively influence, lead, and manage change across consulting teams.
  • Excellent planning and analytical skills with attention to both detail and overall business objectives.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present complex technical concepts clearly to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to mentor and develop others in technical and professional skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with project managers, business line leadership, and technical specialists.
  • Ability to learn, adapt, and apply new technologies in response to evolving client and market needs.

Skills

  • Deep and broad knowledge of electric transmission systems and transmission system planning processes.
  • Extensive experience with transmission planning, studies, and operations such as load flow, short circuit, transient stability, and electromagnetic transient studies; transmission planning standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Strong experience with industry software such as PSS/E, TARA, PSLF, PSCAD, TSAT, and PowerWorld.
  • Strong programming skills with Python, C#, and other modern development languages.
  • Experience utilizing AI tools, such as OpenAI Codex or Anthropic Claude Code, to develop automation workflows.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage a transmission planning study with execution support from other staff.
  • Ability to develop, support, and manage automated workflows performing steady state and transient stability simulations using industry-standard software.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide independent evaluation, selection, adaptation, and modification of standard engineering techniques for electric transmission system planning procedures and criteria.
  • Proven ability to lead, educate, and train a team of engineers and analysts in transmission system planning studies.
  • Proven ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams of engineers and analysts.
  • General business and financial calculation knowledge.
  • Effective project management skills.
  • Ability to work with existing and new clients to identify new projects, articulate the company’s ability to perform those projects, and translate that into the sale of consulting services.
  • Ability to communicate with various business contacts to understand their needs and translate them into a scope of work that meets their desired outcomes.
  • Ability to perform under pressure and tight deadlines, and to be effective in on-site work environments.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently, including identifying critical path items to ensure deliverable deadlines are met.
  • Ability to focus on the big picture while identifying and analyzing critical details for project outcomes.
  • Willingness to learn new service offerings as client needs and market demands evolve.
  • Willingness and ability to develop a broad set of service offerings to allow flexibility in pursuing work opportunities.
  • Willingness to cross-sell other services offered by Burns & McDonnell outside the project manager’s core set of services.
  • Willingness to negotiate with clients for new service agreements.
  • Strong people management skills, interpersonal skills, project management experience, and a strategic perspective.
  • Proficiency in computer software (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to deal effectively with a wide variety of industry, government, and public contracts on project-related matters.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Professional registration preferred.

Pay

$160,000.00 - $260,000.00 yearly. The expected compensation range is based on individual education, qualifications, prior work experience, and work location. The total annual compensation package includes a base salary and eligibility to participate in a discretionary year-end incentive bonus program.
