Digital Delivery Manager – Transmission Planning & Power System Analysis

We are seeking a Digital Delivery Manager to facilitate and oversee digital services for the Transmission Planning and Power System Analysis (TP&PSA) business line. This role includes automation management and development, tool and software assessments, and technology stack management and optimization.

About the role

The Digital Delivery Manager will report directly to the Digital Delivery Director of the TP&PSA business line within 1898 & Co., supporting the Business Line on a national level. This position requires a deep understanding of the power systems industry, specifically with transmission planning studies and operations.

Responsibilities

  • Support the development and execution of the digital strategy for the TP&PSA business line.
  • Drive innovation through AI, digital tools, and automation technologies.
  • Support, maintain, and actively develop core automation tools for project execution.
  • Partner with project managers to identify and implement automation opportunities to improve project processes.
  • Support profitable growth of the business line, including pursuing new markets or products utilizing current core services.
  • Provide strategic feedback to project managers on efficient project execution.
  • Achieve stated targets and standards for financial performance.
  • Manage and collaborate with business development managers, managing directors, and project managers on software management, procurement, and vendor partnerships.
  • Facilitate digital delivery coordination across regions, departments, and other business lines.
  • Coordinate best practice training regarding tools and automation for the business line.
  • Provide experienced technical guidance and support.
  • Mentor and train less experienced staff on technical and business aspects of projects and the industry.
  • Lead and direct team performance to ensure efficient, cost-effective project execution.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and strategic one-on-one meetings with business line staff.
  • Work with Business Line leadership to document, publish, and maintain quality processes.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.

Skills

  • Deep and broad knowledge of electric transmission systems and transmission system planning processes.
  • Extensive experience with transmission planning, studies, and operations such as load flow, short circuit, transient stability, and electromagnetic transient studies.
  • Familiarity with transmission planning standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Strong experience with industry software such as PSS/E, TARA, PSLF, PSCAD, TSAT, and PowerWorld.
  • Strong programming skills with Python, C#, and other modern development languages.
  • Experience utilizing AI tools, such as OpenAI Codex or Anthropic Claude Code, to develop automation workflows.
  • Ability to independently manage a transmission planning study with execution support from other staff.
  • Ability to develop, support, and manage automated workflows performing steady state and transient stability simulations.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide independent evaluation, selection, adaptation, and modification of standard engineering techniques.
  • Proven ability to lead, educate, and train a team of engineers and analysts in transmission system planning studies.
  • Proven ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams of engineers and analysts.
  • General business and financial calculation knowledge.
  • Effective project management skills.
  • Ability to work with clients to identify new projects and translate them into consulting service sales.
  • Ability to communicate with various business contacts to understand their needs and translate them into a scope of work.
  • Ability to perform under pressure, meet tight deadlines, and work effectively in on-site environments.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently, identifying critical path items to meet deliverable deadlines.
  • Strong focus on client needs while analyzing critical project details.
  • Willingness to learn new service offerings as client needs and market demands evolve.
  • Willingness and ability to develop a broad set of service offerings for flexibility.
  • Willingness to cross-sell other services offered by Burns & McDonnell.
  • Ability to thoughtfully and positively influence, lead, and manage change.
  • Strong people management, interpersonal, and project management skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to deal effectively with a wide variety of industry, government, and public contracts.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, technology, business, or related field and 7 years of related experience.
  • OR Associate's degree and 9 years of related experience.
  • OR High School Diploma/GED and 11 years of related experience.
  • Strong understanding of consulting delivery models and professional services environments.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of planning tools, analytical platforms, automation frameworks, and emerging digital technologies.
  • Ability to apply artificial intelligence, programming, and automation solutions to improve consulting workflows.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and systems-thinking skills.
  • Ability to integrate digital tools and processes into project execution without disrupting consulting delivery.
  • Strong facilitation, collaboration, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to thoughtfully and positively influence, lead, and manage change across consulting teams.
  • Excellent planning and analytical skills with attention to both detail and overall business objectives.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presenting complex technical concepts clearly.
  • Ability to mentor and develop others in technical and professional skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with project managers, business line leadership, and technical specialists.
  • Ability to learn, adapt, and apply new technologies in response to evolving client and market needs.
  • Professional registration preferred.

Pay

$160,000.00 - $260,000.00 yearly. The expected compensation range is based on individual education, qualifications, prior work experience, and work location. The total annual compensation package includes a base salary and eligibility to participate in a discretionary year-end incentive bonus program.
