Position Overview

The Digital Content and Engagement Manager supports brand and communication strategies through the creative development and delivery of content across Merrimack's social media platforms to effectively deliver integrated messages to diverse audiences, promote brand recognition and reinforce the College's core values and institutional priorities. Reporting to the Assistant Director, Digital Content, the Digital Content and Engagement Manager will monitor and engage across social channels to ensure timely awareness of conversations, trends and emerging issues. The Digital Content and Engagement Manager will organize and create content (video, photography and design) in collaboration with staff, students and vendors for use across digital channels. Supports live event coverage, institutional storytelling and execution of digital campaigns across social and emerging platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains a proactive and informed presence across platforms, ensuring the brand remains responsive, aligned with audience interests and prepared to act on real-time insights and trends.
  • Conceptualizes, creates and executes multimedia social content (short-form video, photography, design, etc.) to build community and increase engagement on platforms including Instagram, TikTok and YouTube Shorts.
  • Collaborates with the communications and enrollment marketing teams to maintain a distinctive video style that strengthens institutional storytelling and supports Merrimack College's visual identity.
  • Assists with the management of Merrimack College's social media content calendars—planning and posting on a consistent basis—ensuring consistent and strategic content flow across all platforms (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, X, TikTok, Threads, YouTube, etc.) that align with the College's brand voice, tone and visual standards.
  • Monitors analytics and engagement data to optimize performance and inform future content planning.
  • Stays up to date on social media trends, as well as accessibility best practices, to keep Merrimack's social media strategy ahead of the curve.
  • Conducts daily social listening and community management across College social media channels, monitoring and responding to comments, mentions and messages in a timely, professional manner while escalating feedback, concerns or emerging issues as appropriate.
  • Partners with campus partners, including Enrollment Marketing, Athletics, ODAR, Office of Student Involvement on social media efforts.
  • Helps recruit, train and support a team of student influencers and content creators to authentically represent Merrimack College across digital platforms.
  • Occasional evening and weekend work required to support campus events and real-time social media coverage.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications or related field required.
  • 2-3 years of experience creating content and managing institutional or organizational social media accounts.
  • Proven success in developing and executing social media and digital content that drive measurable engagement.
  • Proficiency with social media management, analytics and content creation tools (e.g., Agorapulse, Meta Business Suite, Meltwater, Canva, CapCut and Adobe Creative Cloud).
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders of all levels.
  • Strong project management skills, with experience managing and prioritizing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Eagerness to learn and work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
