About the role

As a Dietary Cook at Colonial Oaks Health and Rehabilitation, you will play a crucial role in ensuring that our residents receive high-quality meals prepared to meet their needs and preferences. Your responsibilities include preparing and serving meals according to standardized recipes, maintaining a clean and safe dining environment, and interacting with residents to gather feedback.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and serve attractive meals meeting customer expectations
  • Maintain and record assigned temperatures daily
  • Supervise Dining Aides when needed
  • Ensure food is ready and meal service begins on time
  • Visit residents in dining rooms to gather feedback
  • Follow temperature regulations in preparing, serving, and storing foods
  • Clean food service equipment after use
  • Replenish supplies in work areas as necessary
  • Sweep and mop floors
  • Open kitchen, turn on lights, unlock/activate equipment
  • Attend and participate in in-service educational classes, department meetings, and all staff in-services
  • Protect the confidentiality of all residents and their care to ensure resident rights and privacy are maintained
  • Comply with safety requirements, infection control measures, and maintain a clean work environment

Requirements

  • Understanding of Dining Services procedures and practices
  • Interpersonal and managerial skills including following instructions, making independent decisions, and working independently
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English
  • Ability to read recipes and menus
  • Genuine interest in seniors and willingness to work for the best interest of residents and facility
  • Personal integrity and ability to deal tactfully with residents, family members, visitors, government agencies, and personnel
  • Ability to work harmoniously with Dining Services staff and all other facility personnel
  • Judgment in prioritizing tasks, duties, and responsibilities
  • Discretion and ability to protect confidential information
  • Patience, a cheerful disposition, enthusiasm, and willingness to handle residents based on their current maturity and physical levels
  • Adherence to professional code of ethics
  • Ability to relate information concerning a resident's condition

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED (preferred but not required)
  • ServSafe certification or willingness to obtain certification
  • At least one (1) year of experience in a similar position (preferred)
