Position Overview
The Diesel Mechanic is responsible for maintaining diesel Trucks and equipment operations by completing inspections and preventive maintenance requirements, correcting vehicle deficiencies and adjustments. Completes all job duties while following all workplace safety rules.
Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)
- Troubleshoots problems, making economical and durable repairs.
- Dismantles devices to gain access to and remove defective parts using hoists and hand tools.
- Maintains and repairs heavy equipment, trucks, shop, and non-mobile equipment on a company-wide basis.
- Servives vehicles/equipment to include oil changes, greasing, adding fluids, changing filters and maintaining preventative maintenance schedules.
- Troubleshoots and repairs electrical and hydraulic systems, diesel and gasoline engines, transmissions, drive trains, etc.
- Orders parts and supplies through parts department.
- Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments.
- Repairs or replaces defective parts. Installs special functional and structural parts in devices.
- Starts and run or drive devices to test their performance.
- Welds broken parts and structural members as necessary.
- Maintains a clean and organized work area.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
- 1-3 years of experience with diesel trucks and/or various heavy equipment.
- Experience working on ready-mix trucks and experience in the building materials/construction industry preferred.
Work Requirements
- Must own tools.
- Must be 18 years in age or older.
- Must have and maintain a current and valid driver’s license. CDL is a plus.
- Must pass pre-employment physical, drug screen and criminal background check.
- Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
Knowledge/Skill Requirements
- Must be proficient in use of a computer and ability to learn usage of a program to track the work orders.
- Knowledge of Highway Trucks, Cement Mixers, Construction equipment preferred.
- Knowledge of equipment and tools, including uses, repair and maintenance.
Physical Requirements
- Frequent sitting, climbing, and using hands to signal and handle equipment.
- Regularly standing, walking, crawling, kneeling, bending, and reaching with hands and arms above their shoulders.
- Occasionally lifting and/or moving anywhere up to 50 lbs.
- Frequently lifting and/or moving 5-15 lbs.
- Close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.
- Exposure to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; outside weather conditions; and extreme cold and/or heat.
- Noisy environment.
