About the role

As a Technician II at Penske, you’ll perform preventative maintenance and repairs of all levels on a well-maintained fleet of vehicles. You’ll work independently on major and minor repairs, conduct road tests to diagnose problems, and complete maintenance tasks. This role involves setting an example for new technicians, growing your skills, and working with a variety of equipment from different manufacturers.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and ensure the safety of vehicles for customers
  • Perform preventive maintenance services on truck and trailer equipment with minimal supervision
  • Repair and troubleshoot components such as engines, transmissions, differentials, turbochargers, and fuel system components
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area
  • Use Penske’s tools and technologies to log, research, and complete repairs, including basic vehicle diagnostics
  • Participate in Penske’s technician training to develop new skills
  • Work on additional projects and tasks as assigned by a supervisor
  • Comply with DOT, OSHA, and Penske safety and maintenance policies, including proper use of tools and PPE
  • Understand and follow specific instructions, guidelines, and regulations established by Penske management

Requirements

  • 3 years of practical experience with vehicle maintenance
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred; vocational or technical certification in vehicle repair preferred
  • Specialized training and experience in diagnosing/troubleshooting major components (engines, transmissions, differentials)
  • OEM training courses, ASE Certification, and 608/609 certifications preferred
  • Experience using diagnostic equipment, hand tools, and power tools
  • Valid driver’s license required; CDL holders subject to DOT Drug Screening and FMCSA Clearinghouse review
  • Ability to solve problems and work well as part of a team
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Willingness to work in non-climate-controlled conditions
  • Basic computer skills
  • Regular, predictable, full attendance is essential
  • Ability to drive Penske and customer vehicles (DOT-regulated position requiring a driver qualification file, including annual MVR check, DOT Physical, and Safety Performance History records)
  • Willingness to travel within the district (customers’ yards, nearby areas, and training sites)
  • Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner
  • Ability to accept responsibility for personal safety and the safety of others

Pay

Starting rate of pay: $30.75/hour + $2.00 CDL differential (if applicable).

Schedule

Monday–Friday, 5:00 AM–1:30 PM.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequent movement, standing, walking, climbing, bending, and sitting for extended periods
  • Routine and daily use of hands to grasp, reach, touch, handle, or operate tools/controls
  • Safe work at heights using ladders and elevated platforms
  • Safe work in all weather conditions
  • Ability to see and hear to navigate the work environment safely
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 50 lbs/23 kg; occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 lbs/45 kg
  • Ability to push/pull truck tires exceeding 100 pounds on a regular basis
