Diesel Technician

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair diesel engines, transmissions, drivetrains, steering, suspension, brake systems, HVAC systems, and electrical components.
  • Perform preventative maintenance services according to manufacturer specifications.
  • Utilize computerized diagnostic equipment and repair information systems to identify mechanical and electrical concerns.
  • Complete warranty and customer-pay repairs accurately and efficiently.
  • Inspect vehicles and identify additional maintenance or repair recommendations.
  • Document diagnostic findings, repair procedures, labor operations, and parts used on repair orders.
  • Maintain productivity and quality standards established by the dealership.
  • Follow all manufacturer repair procedures and dealership policies.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Properly care for dealership tools, equipment, and customer vehicles.
  • Participate in manufacturer training and continuing education programs to stay current with evolving technology.
  • Mentor and assist apprentice or entry-level technicians as assigned.
  • Communicate effectively with service advisors, parts personnel, and management regarding repair status, additional recommendations, and completion timelines.
  • Comply with all OSHA safety regulations and dealership safety procedures.

Qualifications

  • A high school diploma or GED.
  • Previous diesel technician experience required; dealership experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of diesel engine systems, diagnostics, electrical systems, drivetrains, and heavy-duty vehicle repair.
  • Experience using computerized diagnostic equipment and manufacturer repair information systems.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • ASE and/or manufacturer certifications preferred (or willingness to obtain).
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Excellent problem-solving and diagnostic abilities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while contributing to a team environment.
  • Professionalism, integrity, and a strong commitment to customer satisfaction.
  • Moderate to heavy physical activity required, including standing for extended periods, bending, lifting up to 50 pounds, and working in a shop environment.
