Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic

Description of Work

This role focuses on repairing, maintaining, and inspecting a wide range of vehicles and construction equipment. You will support safe transportation operations by diagnosing issues and keeping equipment in proper working condition.

Duties

• Equipment Repair: Repair cars, trucks, tractors, and heavy equipment and replace worn or damaged parts
• Preventative Maintenance: Carry out routine servicing tasks to maintain vehicles, engines, and mechanical systems
• Diagnostics Work: Identify equipment problems using diagnostic tools and follow proper methods to complete repairs
• State Inspections: Complete safety and emissions inspections and perform needed adjustments to meet standards
• Safety Practices: Maintain a clean work area, follow safety procedures, and recognize hazards to reduce risks
• Field Adjustments: Perform adjustments and minor repairs in the field to ensure safe operation and reduce wear

Work Schedule

• Full-time employment
• Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch
• Travel, overtime, and shift work are required
• Work hours are subject to change based upon seasonal requirements and operational needs
• Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position

Pay

Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $56,607.00 (before taxes).

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements

• Successful completion of the commonwealth's Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee program; or
• Two years of journey level mechanic experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment, which includes one year of experience in the diagnosis and repair of diesel vehicles or equipment; or
• An equivalent combination of experience and training

Special Requirements

• This position requires possession of an active Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License
• This position requires possession of an active Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations on the first day of employment
• This position requires employees to possess an active Pennsylvania Class 1, Class 4, or Class 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification on the first day of employment
• This position requires employees to pass the Department of Transportation's New Mechanic Training course during the probationary period
• This position requires possession of an active Tank Vehicle Endorsement (N)

Additional Requirements

• This position is subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations
• You must be able to perform essential job functions
