Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic

Responsibilities

• Fix engines, transmissions, brakes, electrical parts, and other components on cars and heavy equipment
• Carry out preventative maintenance, diagnostics, tune-ups, and system adjustments
• Perform required inspections, complete records, and verify compliance with safety and emissions rules
• Identify mechanical issues using diagnostic tools and determine proper repair methods
• Maintain a clean work area, follow safety procedures, and report injuries or hazards promptly
• Make on-site repairs, demonstrate techniques, and assist coworkers with major repair tasks

Qualifications

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements

• Successful completion of the commonwealth’s Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee program; or
• Two years of journey level mechanic experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment, which includes one year of experience in the diagnosis and repair of diesel vehicles or equipment; or
• An equivalent combination of experience and training

Special Requirements

• Possession of an active Pennsylvania Class A or B Commercial Driver's License with the Air Brake Restriction (L) and Manual Transmission Restriction (E) removed, or equivalent
• Possession of an active Medical Examiner’s Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations on the first day of employment
• An active Pennsylvania Class 1, Class 4, or Class 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification on the first day of employment
• Demonstrate successful operation of equipment with a manual transmission
• May be required to obtain and maintain CDL endorsements and certifications necessary to operate specific pieces of equipment
• Must obtain an active certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in the operation of heavy trucks and loaders within the probationary period
• Subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations
• Ability to perform essential job functions
