Responsibilities

  • Repair vehicles and equipment including engines, brakes, transmissions, and electrical components
  • Perform diagnostics, tune-ups, and scheduled maintenance to keep equipment functioning properly
  • Complete official safety and emissions inspections and prepare required documentation
  • Use diagnostic tools to identify equipment problems and determine proper repair methods
  • Maintain clean work areas, follow safety procedures, and report any injuries or equipment issues
  • Make necessary adjustments, perform minor repairs, and support other mechanics during major repair projects

Requirements

  • Successful completion of the commonwealth’s Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee program; or
  • Two years of journey-level mechanic experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment, which includes one year of experience in the diagnosis and repair of diesel vehicles or equipment; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training

Special Requirements

  • Possession of an active Class A or Class B Commercial Driver’s License with the Air Brake Restriction (L) and Manual Transmission Restriction (E) removed
  • Possession of an active Pennsylvania Class 1, Class 4, or Class 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification during the probationary period
  • Possession of an active Tank Vehicle Endorsement (N) during the probationary period
  • Pass the Department of Transportation’s New Mechanic Training course during the probationary period
  • Possession of an active Medical Examiner’s Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations
  • Ability to perform essential job functions
  • Subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations

A conditional offer of employment will require submission of criminal history reports and a drug screening.
