This position focuses on maintaining and repairing a wide range of vehicles, construction equipment, and powered tools to support safe and efficient operations. You will play an important role in keeping essential machinery in proper working condition for daily and emergency use.
Responsibilities
- Equipment Repairs: Carry out skilled repairs on cars, trucks, tractors, construction machinery, and powered hand tools.
- Preventive Maintenance: Conduct routine servicing such as oil changes, diagnostics, tune‑ups, and part replacements across multiple vehicle systems.
- Safety Inspections: Complete official safety and emissions inspections, verify repair compliance, and document inspection results.
- Field Service: Provide emergency road service and perform maintenance in field environments when needed.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate equipment records and complete automotive reports and related documentation.
- Safety Practices: Follow required safety procedures, report hazards, and support safe work environments for yourself and others.
Requirements
Minimum Experience and Training:
- Successful completion of the Commonwealth’s Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee program (or equivalent Federal Government job title), or
- Two years of journey‑level mechanic experience diagnosing and repairing automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment, including at least one year with diesel vehicles or equipment, or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Special Requirements:
- Active Pennsylvania Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License with the Air Brake Restriction (L) removed.
- Active Medical Examiner’s Certificate in accordance with FMCSA regulations on the first day of employment.
- Active Pennsylvania Class 1, Class 4, or Class 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification on the first day of employment.
- Pass the Department of Transportation’s New Mechanic Training course during the probationary period.
Additional Requirements:
- May be required to obtain and maintain CDL endorsements and certifications necessary to operate specific pieces of equipment.
- Ability to perform essential job functions.
Legal Requirements:
- Conditional offer of employment will require submission of criminal history reports.
- Conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination and drug screening.
Pay
Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin at a starting annual salary of $56,607 (before taxes).
Schedule
Full‑time employment. Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday – Friday, with a 30‑minute lunch. The schedule is subject to change based on weather or season. Telework is not available for this position.
