Responsibilities
This role focuses on keeping vehicles and equipment safe, dependable, and ready for use. It supports the transportation network by ensuring machinery receives proper care. As a Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic, you will perform the following duties:
- Equipment Repair: Fix mechanical problems on vehicles and equipment
- System Service: Inspect hydraulic, electrical, and cooling systems
- State Inspections: Complete official inspections and ensure vehicles meet standards
- Diagnostic Testing: Use diagnostic tools to determine repairs and needed parts
- Worksite Safety: Follow safety procedures and maintain a clean work area
- Field Adjustments: Perform adjustments that support safe operation and limit wear
Qualifications
The following qualifications are required:
- Successful completion of the commonwealth’s Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee program
- Two years of journey level mechanic experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment, which includes one year of experience in the diagnosis and repair of diesel vehicles or equipment
- An equivalent combination of experience and training
Special Requirements:
- Possession of an active Class A or Class B Commercial Driver’s License and any endorsements necessary to operate specific vehicles or equipment
- An active Pennsylvania Class 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification on the first day of employment
- Possession of an active Tank Vehicle Endorsement (N) by within the probationary period
- Possession of an active Medical Examiner’s Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations
Work Schedule and Additional Information
Full-time employment with work hours from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. Some travel, overtime, and shift work may be required. Work hours are subject to change based on seasonal requirements and operational needs. Telework is not an option for this position.
