About the Role

A Die Setter is responsible for the safe and effective execution of die and coil setup activities, including support tasks such as safety checks, changeover activities, readiness checks, participation in the daily management system, and 5S in die storage areas and on assets. When requested by management, they may also perform die preventive maintenance (PM), finger/gripper rebuilds, die wash, and date stamp changes.

Responsibilities

  • Wear required PPE and maintain awareness of all safety key points related to the job and work area.
  • Ensure proper lockout/tagout procedures are followed.
  • Monitor the work environment for safe working conditions and behaviors; take action to maintain health and safety, provide feedback, and report risks or unsafe conditions to the Team Leader.
  • Develop full skill in executing standardized work for each process through job-instruction-training, including understanding and executing all key and knack points.
  • Diligently execute Standardized Work during all production periods.
  • Perform daily checklist tasks for cranes, operate and pre-inspect straps and slings before use.
  • Clean and inspect bolster plates, die tops, and bottoms.
  • Complete required PM die set equipment activities and check sheets as needed.
  • Perform finger/gripper rebuild activities as needed.
  • Align pins in bolsters and ensure bolts are tight and properly fastened.
  • Maintain organization and cleanliness in the die storage area when pulling or placing dies; ensure dies are stored in correct locations.
  • Prepare dies for production by setting, bolting, centering, and securely fastening dies to the bolster, and changing date stamps.
  • Set up coils for coil-fed assets.
  • Execute their role in SMED (Single-Minute Exchange of Die) as specified by standardized work.
  • Perform safety checks on all equipment and light curtains during duties.
  • Provide technical support, troubleshooting, and implementation of corrective actions as a team player.
  • Take a proactive lead in continuous improvement activities, especially related to tool maintenance, die changes, and overall safety and efficiency.
  • Immediately notify the Team Leader of any situation that may put product quality at risk.
  • Actively participate in housekeeping of the work area (5S).
  • Assist in opening, flipping, and washing dies in the tool room as needed.
  • Perform any other duties as deemed necessary or appropriate.

  • Flexibility in work schedule, including possible mandatory overtime.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight timelines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Mechanical aptitude and experience with high tonnage presses and operations.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Self-motivated and proactive.
  • Familiarity with automated tooling.
