Main responsibilities
- Working knowledge of geometry and trigonometry
- Perform mechanical inspections using micrometers, optical comparators, dial indicators, and drop gauges to ensure components meet specifications with diameter, sag, and center thickness
- Read and interpret complex prints to determine tolerances and specifications
- Operate and maintain diamond turning equipment for the precision manufacturing of infrared optical lenses and metal mirrors
- Adjust, understand programming, set up, and operate state-of-the-art lathe equipment
- Understand the effect of feed rate, depth of cut, spindle speeds and their effect on quality with different materials
- Clean and visually inspect diamond-turned optical components, ensuring compliance with ISO and MIL standards for surface quality and dimensional accuracy
- Inspect, maintain, and handle single-point diamond tools, knowledgeable in tool features, application, and proper use
- Optical metrology skills, including calibration and operation of interferometers and surface profilometers (e.g., Form Talysurf) for form error and surface roughness inspection of lenses and mirrors
Requirements
- A High School Diploma or GED
- 7+ years' optics diamond turning or equivalent manufacturing experience
- Basic math skills
- Teamwork and the ability to work effectively and contribute to a team
- CNC lathe experience preferred
- Utilizes good communication and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge with DiffSys tool path software or similar
- Familiarity with G&M code, modification of tool path, and use of call programs as needed
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Windows

Pay
Pay Range: $30-$40 per hour, depending on experience.
