Diagnostic Procedures Technology III
About the role
The Brain Imaging Center in the Department of Psychiatry is seeking an advanced MRI technologist to support research studies conducted on two research-dedicated 3T MRI systems, including Siemens and GE platforms. This onsite position combines expert participant care with research protocol implementation, advanced image-quality assessment, scanner and peripheral troubleshooting, quality control, investigator collaboration, and secure data handling. The successful candidate will work independently with investigators, research personnel, and participants across the lifespan and from varied clinical populations. The role offers the opportunity to contribute to functional MRI, diffusion imaging, MR spectroscopy, and other advanced research methods while helping maintain a safe, organized, and technically rigorous research imaging environment.
Responsibilities
- Perform advanced research MRI examinations using study-specific protocols on Siemens and GE 3T systems.
- Screen, prepare, position, educate, and monitor research participants while maintaining MRI safety and comfort.
- Evaluate image quality and independently troubleshoot acquisition, equipment, peripheral, and task-related issues.
- Perform and document scanner quality control, equipment checks, and corrective follow-up.
- Collaborate with investigators on protocol implementation, testing, parameter selection, and documentation.
- Process, transfer, verify, store, and back up imaging and raw data using approved workflows.
- Train research personnel and maintain study, safety, scanner, and regulatory documentation.
Requirements
- Associate’s degree from an accredited institution in radiologic technology or field of study related to the work assignment.
- Two (2) years of MRI experience with human populations and brain-specific imaging.
- Current registration in magnetic resonance imaging through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (R.T.(MR)(ARRT)).
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Substitution: Additional appropriate experience will substitute for the degree requirement on a year-for-year basis.
- Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
- Legally authorized to work in the United States without requiring sponsorship.
- Ability to perform essential physical functions: occasionally lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds, frequently lifting and carrying up to 25 pounds, pushing or pulling MRI equipment, and assisting with participant positioning and transfers.
Qualifications
- Experience performing and documenting MRI quality control procedures.
- MRI-relevant computer proficiency, including the ability to navigate multiple screens, systems, and data-transfer workflows quickly and accurately.
- Three or more years of MRI experience in an advanced or lead technologist role.
- Experience operating and troubleshooting both Siemens and GE MRI platforms.
- Research MRI experience, including functional MRI, MR spectroscopy, diffusion imaging, or other advanced neuroimaging methods.
- Experience implementing, optimizing, testing, and documenting research MRI protocols.
- Experience with E-Prime, Presentation, or comparable stimulus-presentation and response-recording software.
- Experience with cardiac, body, or multinuclear MRI and MR spectroscopy.
- Experience working with research participants across the lifespan and with varied neurological, psychiatric, developmental, or body-habitus considerations.
Skills
- Advanced knowledge of MR physics, image quality, research MRI methods, and relevant anatomy and physiology.
- Ability to understand, implement, and appropriately adjust human MRI acquisition parameters based on study requirements and desired outcomes.
- Ability to independently identify and troubleshoot technical, image-quality, hardware, software, and quality
