Development Officer, ASU Health

About the role

The Development Officer is responsible for implementing and coordinating comprehensive fundraising and/or engagement programs aimed at identifying, cultivating, and securing gifts in conjunction with the objectives and strategies related to the priorities of ASU Health. This includes a new pathways program for medical school, a health humanities program, and a new virtual medical school. In partnership with unit development directors within ASU Health, ASU Enterprise Partners, and university faculty and staff, this position will identify opportunities and develop engagement strategies for securing and maintaining donors across the spectrum of our constituency.

Responsibilities

  • Build a portfolio of new donors to secure gifts and grants that align with ASU Health’s goals, campaign priorities, and performance metrics.
  • Contribute to the strategic planning and execution of fundraising and engagement activities.
  • Participate in developing and implementing best practices for donor engagement, solicitation, and stewardship.
  • Facilitate connections between donors, prospects, and ASU through various events, communications, and opportunities.
  • Collaborate with ASU Health leadership to ensure cohesive solicitation efforts and marketing strategies.
  • Utilize Salesforce to manage donor information and coordinate with research teams to advance prospects into the major gift pipeline.
  • Assist in managing and staffing ASUF and ASU events, enhancing donor engagement.
  • Support specific development program tasks, including monitoring foundation fundraising and campaign progress.
  • Coordinate engagement strategies across the enterprise, focusing on maximizing faculty, staff, and student involvement.
  • Utilize the University's databases and resources to effectively manage relationships with the ASU community.

Requirements

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to interact effectively with academic leadership, faculty, prospects, donors, and/or volunteers in a wide range of roles.
  • Ability to conduct research, gather data, analyze information, and prepare effective, accurate, and timely reports and other documents to support development objectives.
  • Database management skills.
  • Ability to supervise and train employees, including organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment, demonstrate an understanding of ethics related to development activities, and use discretion in interactions with donors, prospects, volunteers, and others.
  • Ability to foster effective working relationships within a team environment.
  • Community relations skills and the ability to communicate and work effectively within a diverse community.
  • Program planning and leadership skills.
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality and responsibility regarding information related to Foundation and University business and confidential prospect information.
  • Highly developed verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present effectively to small and large groups.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and comfort working in donor/prospect computer database systems.
  • Ability to represent the institution well and possess an advocate’s belief in the vision of ASU as the New American University.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or currently enrolled in a bachelor's degree program.
  • One (1) to three (3) years of successful development experience.
  • Demonstrated ability in securing major grants and gifts from individuals, corporations, foundations, and other private funding sources.
  • Demonstrated ability in planning and implementing long- and short-range development initiatives in conjunction with strategic planning processes.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and experience in managing events and other complex activities in support of development objectives.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree.
  • One (1) to three (3) years of successful fundraising experience or transferable experiences working with donors and prospects in higher education or athletics for applicable roles.
  • Experience working in Salesforce and Workday.
  • Knowledge of fundraising techniques including proposal development, prospect identification, fund solicitation, database management, donor tracking, and social networking and marketing tools in higher education.
