You'll work on real client projects and internal TAL builds from week one. Apply Now →Read the full role Who We Are TAL is a three-founder startup. We build brands, run content, and manage marketing for clients — and we build our own tools and website in-house. This role sits across both sides: client development work and internal builds. We're not looking for someone who has it all figured out. We're looking for someone who picks things up fast, ships without hand-holding, and uses every tool available — including AI — to get there. Why This Role Exists Development work at TAL spans client websites, internal tooling, and features we're building for our own platform. Right now that work competes for founder time — which means it moves slower than it should. This role takes the execution off our plate. You'll work on real briefs with real deadlines. Some of it will be frontend. Some will be backend. Some will be full-stack. The stack varies by project — what stays constant is the expectation that you figure it out and deliver. What bandwidth you free up Once you're briefed, you own the build. You come back with questions when you're genuinely stuck — not for reassurance. You ship, get feedback, and iterate. What a good week looks like Shipped work — features, fixes, or pages — that the team can see and test. No open threads left hanging without a status update. What You'll Own Frontend builds — pages, components, and UI features across client and internal projectsBackend tasks — APIs, integrations, data handling — based on your skill setBug fixes and quality improvements on existing codebasesInternal tooling that makes the team's work faster or more reliableClear communication on what's built, what's blocked, and what's next What You Must Have Skills Proficiency in at least one frontend or backend language or frameworkAbility to read an existing codebase and work within its patternsComfort using AI tools — ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot — as part of your development workflowBasic understanding of how the web works: requests, responses, APIs, DOM Values You read the existing code before writing new codeWhen you're stuck, you try three things before you ask — and when you ask, you show your workFeedback on your code is useful information, not a verdict on youYou communicate before anyone has to wonder where something isDone means tested, not just written Tools you should know Git / GitHubVS Code or equivalentChatGPT / Claude / CopilotGoogle WorkspaceVercel / Netlify (or similar)Figma (reading designs, not necessarily creating them) What Ownership Looks Like Here You've built something — a project, a page, a tool, anything — and you can walk us through what it does, what broke along the way, and what you'd do differently now. The stack doesn't matter. The fact that you shipped it does. Nice to Have You've worked on something outside of coursework — a personal project, a freelance build, a college club website, an open-source contribution. You've used AI tools not just to get answers but to think through problems. You're comfortable picking up a framework you haven't used before without waiting to be taught it. What will make you stand out You've built and shipped something independently — even if it's smallYou've worked with a client or team on a real brief beforeYou're comfortable in both frontend and backend contextsYou've contributed to or studied an open-source projectYou use AI tools actively and know their limits An Honest Note on Fit What we take seriously Being honest about what you know and what you don't — overestimating your stack is how projects breakFlagging blockers early, not after the deadline has passedTesting your own output before calling something doneAsking questions with context — 'I tried X and Y, here's what happened' beats 'it doesn't work' Worth reflecting on before you apply Waiting to be told what to do next when the brief is already in front of youTreating AI-generated code as final output without reading or testing itGoing quiet when something isn't working instead of flagging itNeeding the full stack explained before starting anything Read these honestly before you apply — it's how we make sure this is genuinely a good fit, for you and for us. 90-Day Goals At least two shipped features or builds — on client projects, internal tools, or both — that the team is actively using. A clear track record of flagging blockers fast, iterating on feedback, and delivering on the briefs you're given. By month three, you're picking up tasks with minimal context and running with them. Why It's Worth It You work directly with three founders on real products and client builds — not tutorial projects, not practice tasks. The learning here is steep because the work is real. If you're early in your dev career and want to build a track record of shipped work fast, this is the place to do it.
