About the role
The Department of Design in the College of the Humanities and Arts at San José State University seeks part-time, temporary instructors in Animation & Illustration, Graphic Design, Interior Design, Industrial Design, Interaction Design, and Experience Design. Applicants should have a Master’s degree or at least five years of professional experience, along with a passion for teaching at the undergraduate level.
Responsibilities
- Engage and inspire students, ensuring learning standards are met and/or exceeded.
- Teach during designated class times and hold regular weekly office hours.
- Create and evaluate student exams and assignments, and assign grades.
- Organize all classes within the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS).
- Offer and meet all classes as scheduled throughout the entire semester, in the mode assigned and listed in the schedule of classes.
- Demonstrate awareness of and address the needs of a diverse student population through inclusive course materials, teaching strategies, and advisement.
- Comply with CSU employee training requirements, including preventing discrimination and harassment, gender equity, and Title IX.
- Be designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) and report Clery incidents to the institution.
Requirements
Required qualifications include a Master’s degree or at least five years of professional experience, along with an awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a multicultural population.
Qualifications

Skills
Skills in using the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS) and experience organizing and delivering classes online are preferred.

Pay
Compensation and salary range placement are determined by qualifications and experience. The anticipated monthly salary rate of full-time AY faculty is provided in the pay range details.
Schedule
Positions start at the beginning of a semester and appointments may be renewed on a semester-by-semester basis, based on department need, funding, and performance.
