About the role

The Department of Design at Sacramento State is housed in the College of Arts & Letters. The Department offers a B.A. in Design Studies, a B.F.A. in Architecture Studies, a B.F.A. in Graphic Design, a B.F.A. in Interior Architecture, and a B.F.A. in Photography.

Responsibilities

• Teach undergraduate introductory design history classes, introductory studio classes in basic 2-D and 3-D composition, introductory classes in critical thinking about design.
• Teach introductory undergraduate studio classes in focused on 2-D composition, symbol development and color theory.
• Teach undergraduate lecture and studio-based classes in the following areas: design studio, computer graphics studio, architectural history, professional career preparation, and building systems/building technology.
• Teach undergraduate classes in digital and/or analog photography.

Requirements

• Master's degree, or a Bachelor's degree combined with at least five years of teaching or relevant professional experience in one of these fields or a related discipline.
• Terminal degree in the relevant field.
• Prior teaching experience at the college level.

• Qualified candidates must have either a Master's degree, or a Bachelor's degree combined with at least five years of teaching or relevant professional experience in one of these fields or a related discipline.
• A terminal degree in the relevant field is preferred.

• Ability to teach a variety of design courses.
• Experience in relevant professional fields.

Benefits

Initial appointments are typically for one semester, but occasionally academic year initial appointments are made. Appointments may be renewed based on department needs, funding, and performance. Often appointments are made just prior to the start of the semester.

Pay

• Lecturer A: $5,507 - $6,677
• Lecturer B: $6,221 ‐ $13,224
• Lecturer C: $6,825 ‐ $14,523
• Lecturer D: $8,593 ‐ $15,211

Schedule

Course assignments, including dates, time, and modality, are made by the Department Chair under the direction of the College Dean. Part-time lecturers are instructional faculty with conditional appointments based on enrollment and budget.
