About the role

The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) is seeking passionate individuals to join our team as a Deputy Sheriff Trainee. This role involves ensuring public safety by providing services that consider the impact of actions on individuals, teams, and organizations.

Responsibilities

  • Criminal investigations: Conducts traffic and criminal investigations, securing and collecting evidence, interviewing victims, witnesses, and suspects, and executing search warrants.
  • Response to calls for service: Responds quickly to emergencies, determining the safest approach, and restoring or maintaining order and safety.
  • Patrol duties: Maintains community safety by identifying and responding to criminal activity and unusual circumstances, engaging the community in policing practices, and documenting incidents.
  • Training: Attends and implements all required training as specified by Arizona Police Officers Standards Training Board (POST) and the MCSO.
  • Administration: Communicates with the public and staff, gathers information, and documents incidents and requirements.

Requirements

Applicants must be U.S. citizens, 21 years of age, and meet Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) standards. They must also possess a valid Arizona driver's license and be able to pass a background investigation, polygraph examination, psychological exam, and medical exam.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum education and/or experience: High school diploma or GED.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must be 21 years of age at the completion of the academy.
  • MUST MEET ARIZONA POST STANDARDS AS DETERMINED THROUGH THE PRE-Employment PROCESS.

  • Compensation includes a starting salary of $68,640 plus a $7,500 sign-on incentive.
  • Up to $5,250 annually in education reimbursement.

Pay

$35.10 per hour upon successful completion of the Deputy Sheriff Academy.

Schedule

Working 24/7 shifts, operating any location, and subject to hazardous conditions.
