DEPUTY SHERIFF RECRUIT

About the role

Under immediate supervision, receives instruction in assigned curriculum of the Washoe County Sheriff's Office approved law enforcement academy and participates in training exercises designed to simulate situations encountered by a Washoe County Deputy Sheriff and performs related work as required.

Requirements

• Graduation from high school, possession of a General Education Development (G.E.D.) Certificate, OR proof of passing a high school equivalency assessment approved by the State Board of Education or an appropriate authority in another state is required at the time of application.
• Must be a United States Citizen at time of application.
• Must be at least 21 years of age within six months of application.
• Must be at least 21 years of age at the time of appointment.
• A valid Nevada Class C driver's license is required at the time of appointment and must be maintained for continued employment in this classification.
• Completes and submits a Personal History Statement and passes an extensive background investigation.
• Sets of fingerprints are submitted.
• Successfully completes a Computerized Voice Stress Analysis (CVSA) examination.
• Submits to a psychological examination.
• Passes a thorough pre-employment medical examination in accordance with NAC 289.110, and drug screen.

Qualifications

• Resides in the state of Nevada or neighboring California communities such as Truckee, South Lake Tahoe or Susanville as of their first day of work.
• Eligible employees may receive an annual merit increase of 5% until they reach the maximum salary for the classification.
• Upon promotion, current Washoe County employees are placed at the minimum rate of the salary range for the higher classification of the new position OR a promotional calculation, whichever is greater.
