About the role
The McHenry County Sheriff's Department Merit Commission is seeking applicants to create an eligibility list for the position of full-time Merited Sheriff's Deputy. A Sheriff's Deputy performs a variety of complex law enforcement duties and enforces Federal and State laws and County ordinances for the protection of life, health, safety, welfare and property. Deputies with the Sheriff's Office provide services through the Patrol, Investigations and Special Services Divisions. The Merit Commission will hold an orientation session on 8:30 AM November 21, 2026 at Huntley High School, 13719 Harmony Road, Huntley, IL (doors open at 8:00 AM). A written exam will be conducted immediately following the orientation, followed by a physical ability test. P.O.W.E.R. test cards will not be accepted.
Responsibilities
Perform complex law enforcement duties, enforce Federal and State laws and County ordinances to protect life, health, safety, welfare and property; provide services through the Patrol, Investigations and Special Services Divisions.
