Deputy Sheriff

About the role

The Union County Sheriff’s Office seeks a Deputy Sheriff to perform general law enforcement work, primarily responsible for preventing and detecting crime, enforcing criminal laws, and serving civil processes.

Responsibilities

• Answers complaint calls and investigates crimes and incidents according to federal, state, county, and municipal laws.
• Responds to emergency and non-emergency calls, including domestic violence, alarm, disturbance, 911 hang-ups, wanted persons, and suspicious persons/vehicles.
• Performs community policing and patrols assigned areas, inspecting troublesome areas and businesses.
• Enforces traffic laws, serves legal papers, and conducts accident investigations.
• Draws and executes search warrants, books inmates, and provides transportation services.
• Attends judicial proceedings and cooperates with other law enforcement officers and agencies.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Basic Law Enforcement Certification from the North Carolina Sheriffs’ Education and Training Standards Commission.
• Must be at least 21 years old.
• Valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Physical ability to operate law enforcement equipment and tools, safety equipment, firearms, communications equipment, office equipment, etc.
• Ability to lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to move or drag up to 175 pounds.
• Ability to defend oneself and restrain suspects of varying weights.
