About the role
Patrols an assigned zone of the county; responds to emergencies, and renders appropriate aid.
Responsibilities
- Responds to reports of criminal activity to include assisting in investigating crimes and disturbances;
- Interviews witnesses, gathers evidence, interrogates suspects, and makes arrests;
- Prepares initial investigation report.
Requirements
- Transports inmates, mental patients, and intoxicated persons to institutions for confinement or treatment;
- Serves civil and criminal court papers such as summons, warrants, subpoenas, capiases, and special court orders;
- Explains briefly the meaning of papers served and makes arrests when necessary;
- Remains on the scene after serving certain civil papers until the civil process is completed.
Qualifications
- Opens and closes courts at designated times;
- Maintains order in the courtroom;
- Aids defendants in completing affidavits;
- Swears defendants in;
- Seats jury in place when selected;
- Escorts trial jury to jury room when directed by judge;
- Auxiliaries in and escorts grand jury.
Skills
- Cooperates with law enforcement officers of other governmental units in making investigations or arrests;
- Provides drug education and resistance programs for elementary school children.

Minimum Education And Experience
- Graduation from high school; or an equivalent combination of experience and training;
