Deputy Sheriff

About the role

A Deputy Sheriff is a sworn and certified law enforcement officer who provides courthouse and courtroom security, transportation of prisoners, and service of court orders and writs. Newly hired employees are paid their base salary to attend extensive training including off-site academy where they will learn all the skills and tools required to be successful in this role. Both Full- and Part-Time positions are available.

Requirements

• At least 21 years of age
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Current driver's license with acceptable driving history
• Complete application including COMPLETE contact information for three references
• Manually input work history into application
• Attach a clear picture of driver's license
• Pass written exam
• Pass physical agility test
• Upon hire, attend the 19-week training Academy at Penn State University

Exam information

• Written exam dates: TBD; eligible candidates will be contacted via email when dates are established
• Applicants may take the exam a maximum of two (2) times per 12-month period
• Exam lasts three hours, held onsite in Easton, PA, at no cost to applicants
• To pass: must be able to read, write, hear, and understand English; must be able to see both short distances (to read and write) and long distances (to view test video)
• Practice test available through vendor (not required, not free)
• Candidates who pass written exam will be notified when physical agility test is scheduled
• Candidates who pass physical agility test will be referred for interview

Pay

Per union contract, base salary is $29.14 per hour.
