This position is for a School Resource Officer assigned to the Cass Lake School District.

Purpose of Position

This position will enforce all local, state, and federal laws, serve the citizens of the County and the State, render aid during emergency situations or disasters, investigate criminal offenses, make arrests, and aid in successfully obtaining convictions in a Court of Law.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to all emergency situations, both while on and off duty, such as car accidents, farm accidents, storms, explosions, etc.
  • Render assistance and aid to the injured, protect property, and ensure the well-being of the public.
  • Enforce all local, state, and federal laws.
  • Assist in civil, criminal, and traffic investigations, including gathering, marking, preserving, and protecting evidence for judicial use.
  • Interview witnesses, suspected perpetrators, and victims.
  • Assist in the interrogations of suspects and complete investigative reports as required.
  • Physically arrest criminal perpetrators and provide clear, honest testimony in Court.
  • Serve arrest warrants.
  • Transport mental patients, prisoners, and blood to area hospitals or other security facilities.
  • Deliver death notices to family.
  • Operate motor vehicles and other law enforcement equipment, including performing small mechanical motions repeatedly.
  • Arrest and/or transport persons during all hours and weather conditions.
  • Work in other divisions of the Sheriff’s Office as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum of an Associate of Arts (A.A.) Degree, preferably in Criminal Justice.
  • Must be a full-time POST licensed peace officer or POST licensed eligible on the date of hire.
  • Must be a United States Citizen.
  • Must have no felony convictions.
  • Must possess a valid Driver’s License.
  • Ability to analyze situations and react accordingly within split seconds.
  • Tactfully, efficiently, and effectively communicate with the public when obtaining sensitive information.
  • Ability to keep individuals subdued during arrest and/or transport.
  • Knowledge of criminal investigations, interrogation, rules of evidence, preservation of evidence, death investigation, jail security, communications practices, federal, state, and local laws, and court procedures.
  • Knowledge of street and highway systems, geography of the County, and locations requiring special law enforcement services.

Physical Effort

  • Heavy to very heavy physical activities requiring climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, handling, feeling, talking, and hearing.
  • Near and far acuity, depth perception, accommodation, field of vision, and control of others.
  • Must exert in excess of 100 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently.
  • Work in the field will include exposure to weather, noise, confined/restricted areas, as well as inside work in an office setting.

Pay

Hourly rate: $35.40 - $45.41
