How to Be Successful in This Role

You will support general tort defense litigation with a focus on juvenile sexual assault claims, working closely with the dedicated juvenile sexual assault team. Success in this role involves careful, trauma‑informed investigation, strategic litigation, and collaboration with team members from case inception through trial.

Minimum Qualifications

• Handles complex legal matters and litigation on behalf of Pierce County in both State and Federal Courts.
• Involved from the claim stage through pre‑trial preparation, trial, and any appeals.
• Works directly with elected officials and appointed department heads to provide legal advice, draft documents, and prepare legal opinions and memoranda.
• May perform the duties of Chief or Assistant Chief Civil Deputy in the absence of those officials.
• Frequently relied upon by other attorneys for legal and strategic advice.
• Assists the prosecutor in formulating office policy.
• Assists the prosecutor in setting office goals and recommending personnel to fulfill those goals.
• Analyzes, appraises, and organizes facts, evidence, and precedents; makes presentations before courts, legislative bodies, and administrative agencies.
• May have supervisory responsibility for a unit in the Civil Division and may be requested to assist in policy formulation and personnel recommendations.
