About the role
The Delaware Department of Justice seeks exceptional attorneys to join the Criminal Division in New Castle County. This role involves prosecuting serious and complex cases, including homicide, domestic violence, special victims, and other violent crimes.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate cases and determine appropriate resolutions, including whether to pursue prosecution, negotiate plea agreements, or proceed to trial.
- Formulate case-specific plea offers and litigate cases that are not otherwise resolved.
- Handle a wide variety of criminal matters, interact with members of the public, and engage in plea negotiations with defense counsel.
- Manage complex investigations and understand specialized evidence, including medical evidence.
- Evaluate criminal cases, exercise sound judgment in charging and case resolution, and anticipate litigation issues while effectively researching legal and, when relevant, technical or medical matters.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with detectives, medical personnel, child welfare professionals, fellow Deputy Attorneys General, support staff, and court personnel.
- Independently try serious cases and apply relevant laws and court rules.
Requirements
- Strong legal background and membership in the Delaware Bar.
- Ability to manage complex investigations and understand specialized evidence, including medical evidence.
- Sound judgment in charging and case resolution, and anticipation of litigation issues.
- Effective research skills, particularly in legal and technical matters.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, especially with detectives, medical personnel, child welfare professionals, and court personnel.
- Ability to independently try serious cases and apply relevant laws and court rules.

- Knowledge of medical evidence and its relevance in criminal proceedings.
- Proven ability to manage and resolve criminal cases effectively.

Pay
Salary ranges for the position are as follows:
- DAG I: $87,458
- DAG II: $92,259 - $96,760
- DAG III: $101,898 - $104,137
- DAG IV: $112,013 - $117,440
- DAG V: $125,885 - $135,154
Schedule
The schedule for this role is flexible but includes regular appearances in court. The position is exempt from the State of Delaware Merit System.
