The Delaware Department of Justice, Family Division, Criminal & Delinquency Unit, seeks a Deputy Attorney General.

About the Role

The Deputy Attorney General in this Unit is responsible for compiling and producing discovery, drafting motions and briefs, performing research, extending and negotiating plea agreements, and taking matters to trial. This is a Unit with a high volume of cases and several court calendars scheduled per week. The current position we are seeking to fill is primarily responsible for prosecuting juvenile delinquency and truancy cases with the unique opportunity to occasionally handle adult domestic violence cases, including taking any or all of these types of cases to trial.

Responsibilities

  • Compile and produce discovery
  • Draft motions and briefs
  • Perform research
  • Extend and negotiate plea agreements
  • Take matters to trial
  • Prosecute juvenile delinquency and truancy cases
  • Occasionally handle adult domestic violence cases

Requirements

  • Knowledge of criminal law and procedure
  • Ability to evaluate criminal cases, determine resolutions, and anticipate legal issues
  • Able to research accurately and effectively
  • Ability to learn and apply relevant laws and court rules
  • Good working relationship with other Deputy Attorneys General, support staff, and Court personnel
  • Membership in Delaware Bar required

Qualifications

  • Legal education and admission to practice law in any U.S. jurisdiction

Skills

  • Strong analytical and organizational skills
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
