Brief Summary of Job Duties
The Deputy Athletics Director for Business Operations/CFO is chiefly responsible for providing financial and operational leadership to Intercollegiate Athletics, overseeing all administrative departmental functions and serving as a C-suite liaison to multiple campus partners.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
- 4-6 years Work experience in higher education.
Preferred Qualifications
- 10+ years Work experience in higher education as an administrator.
- 4-6 years Work experience in Human Resources in areas such as recruitment, employment contracts, with a general understanding of labor law.
- Professional certification.

Job Functions and Percentages of Time
- 30% Leadership and Management - Primary advisor to the Athletic Director on all financial matters. Provide leadership, management, and professional development for the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics. Ensure ongoing training and professional development of all staff, enabling them to build accurate analysis of their respective areas, use best practices tools, and empower them to increase analytical independence and insight. Direct oversight and management of Athletics’ Business & Finance. This includes salary and contracts, financial monthly and year-end close, expense accounting, revenue accounting, purchasing, travel, reporting, and both short- and long-term planning and analysis. Makes final decision on financial operational matters and ensures effective achievement of unit objectives. Organize information to inform campus and department leadership (Executive leadership and head coaches for 20 division 1 programs) of budget, financial status, trends, forecasts and performance with clarity and multiple means of communication. Direct oversight and management of Human Resources unit. Manages and oversees all staffing and personnel matters for the Intercollegiate Athletic Department – including significant, high complexity contracts. Primary role in negotiation, renegotiation, and execution of all coaching personnel matters for all division 1 sport programs. Supports the Director of Athletics in supervising the recruiting process and providing strategic salary management consultative advice from the inception to the final contract signing. Lead negotiation and review of all business contracts regarding departmental operations: insurance, travel, purchasing, etc. Serves as department Data Security Administrator (DSA). Must have thorough understanding of separation of duties and internal controls. Direct oversight and management of IT resources.
- 25% Resource Management - Responsible for Department of Intercollegiate Athletics resource allocation and re-allocation frameworks, including an annual budget process and ongoing adjustments and decisions on budget and capital throughout the year. Create custom financial models and reporting to provide planning, analysis, and forecasting of budget and financial scenarios necessary for departmental decisions and strategic planning, including a variety of external revenue sources, such as NCAA and Big West distributions, sponsorships, licensing, game guarantees, ticket sales and other event-related revenues, merchandise, gift contributions, etc. Build and maintain multi-million-dollar venue maintenance plan for proper resource allocation. Manage financial partnership with external partnerships/rentals (i.e. professional soccer team, Santa Barbara Sky). Allocating capital and operating resources and providing financial reporting for Sky front office throughout contract agreement
- 20% Planning, Analysis, Forecasting and Assessment - Direct and integrate short and long-range fiscal planning incorporating central university initiatives, Athletic Director strategic plan, athletic development fundraising, athletics capital planning, and projected revenues from all potential sources. Oversee and conduct complex analyses over a wide range of resource issues (e.g. scholarship resources, coach/support staff recruitment, central resources, Name Image and Likeness rules, new NCAA laws around direct financial assistance to student-athletes and salary cap management, salary and benefits costs, etc.). Identify current and future issues, policies, processes, or procedures that require analysis and resolution and create solutions. Lead NCAA Agreed-Upon-Procedures engagement; develop comprehensive financial reports for the NCAA, Division 1 Big West Conference, and Department of Education working in conjunction with various partners throughout UCSB and UCOP Direct and manage short and long-range capital fiscal plans. Create and maintain unique financial system structure that allows for transparency for central university, athletics department, and external auditors. Financial structure needs to allow for maximum automation for financial reporting purposes i.e. NCAA, EADA, and Big West reporting.
- 15% Strategic Revenue Generation - Responsible for oversight, management, and optimization of all revenue generation opportunities and contracts inclusive of, but not exclusive to; apparel/athletic equipment sponsorships (i.e. Adidas, Easton, Speedo, Asics), facility rental recharge operation, financials for the department’s institutional camp business, corporate sponsorships, and ticketing/merchandise. Primary advisor to strategic revenue and growth opportunities.
- 10% NCAA NIL Strategy and Initiatives - Provides strategic leadership for NCAA NIL strategy and initiatives. Develops and maintains internal controls aligned with new NCAA and conference initiatives and requirements (Post-NCAA House Settlement).
