About the role

The Department of English at California State University, San Bernardino invites applications from a diverse group of qualified applicants for a tenure track position at the level of Assistant Professor to begin August 2027. We seek a specialist in Communication Sciences and Disorders or Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences. The successful candidate will offer courses across the department’s Bachelor of Arts, Post-baccalaureate Certificate, Minor, and Master of Arts in Speech-Language Pathology programs (including the Speech-Language & Hearing Clinic).

Responsibilities

• Help develop new programs in Communication Sciences and Disorders.
• Teach a range of undergraduate and graduate courses in communication sciences and disorders, based on sub-specialization and departmental programmatic needs.
• Demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring a diverse student population.
• Work effectively with faculty, staff, and students across a wide range of disciplines.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Communication Sciences and Disorders; Speech-Language Pathology; Speech Language and Hearing Sciences; Language Science; or a closely related field (degree in hand by time of appointment).
• Evidence of promise in professional activities.

• Commitment to service to the University and the larger community.

Qualifications

• Eligibility for ASHA accreditation and state licensure as a speech-language pathologist (preferred).
• Experience in health care settings (e.g., hospitals, residential and nonresidential health care facilities, private practice) (preferred).
• Specialization in neurology and neurogenetic language and cognition disorders; dysphagia; anatomy and physiology of the speech and hearing mechanisms (preferred).

• The person holding this position is considered a "mandated reporter" under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.
• Following a conditional offer of employment, a background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate may start work with CSUSB.
• Current employees who are offered positions on campus will be required to undergo a background check for any position where a background check is required by law or that CSUSB has designated as sensitive.

The Department of English offers a Bachelor of Arts in English, with concentrations in Literature, Creative Writing, Linguistics, and Rhetoric and Writing Studies; a Bachelor of Arts in Speech Language Pathology; and a Bachelor of Science in Computational Linguistics and AI; minors in English, Border Studies, Creative Writing, Speech-Language Pathology, and Multimedia Storytelling; and a Master of Arts in English and Writing Studies with concentrations in Linguistics, Literature, Composition and Rhetoric, as well as Pedagogy and Public and Professional Writing. In addition, we offer certificate programs in Creative Writing, Public and Professional Writing, TESL (Teaching English as a Second Language) and Teaching Writing, as well as a Speech-Language Pathology Master’s Preparatory Certificate.

Pay

• Assistant Professor (Range 3): $6,221 – $13,224 per month
• Associate Professor (Range 4): $6,825 – $14,523 per month
• Professor (Range 5): $8,593 – $15,211 per month
