About the role

The Department Manager position oversees all administrative components within the Department of Economics, ensuring continuous operations and policy compliance. They provide oversight for budget management, HR, marketing, and student success initiatives, and supervise department administrative support staff.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and implements solutions to financial and operational challenges.
  • Manages departmental budgets and resources.
  • Supervises administrative support staff and student employees.
  • Collaborates with colleagues across the university to address departmental needs.
  • Ensures compliance with university policies and procedures.
  • Provides customer service to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Performs data analysis and produces reports/recommendations.
  • Works independently and collaboratively with teams and committees.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree plus 2+ years minimum work-related experience.
  • Successfully demonstrated ability to supervise, train, and manage support staff and/or student employees.
  • Demonstrated ability of program management/project coordination skills.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • High level of accuracy in very detailed work.
  • Experience with performing appropriate data analysis, working with complex databases, reporting tools/techniques, and producing reports and/or recommendations.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 years successfully demonstrated ability to supervise, train, and manage support staff and/or student employees.
  • Self-starter, able to work independently as well as participate effectively with teams and/or committees.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • High level of accuracy in very detailed work.
  • Experience with performing appropriate data analysis, working with complex databases, reporting tools/techniques, and producing reports and/or recommendations.
  • Successful completion of a background check.

Pay

Salary is dependent on several factors, and new employees will typically start around the Q1 level to allow for later growth within the salary band. The starting annual salary for this position will be between $58,956 and $62,000, but may be negotiated above this range, dependent upon the factors above, the budget of the hiring department, and approval from HR.

Schedule

Total Compensation Statement: The Department Manager position works on campus for five days per week. Upon successful completion of the six months trial service, up to one day of remote work may be approved by the supervisor.
