About the role

Under the direct supervision of the Interim Director, the Department Coordinator supports the Student Success and Advising Center in assisting a diverse array of candidates pursuing a degree or credential program in the College of Education. The incumbent is responsible for program administration, administrative and operational functions, and general office support.

Responsibilities

  • Support the SSAC staff and College of Education students by entering and tracking student data in internal systems for student admission, program progress, and program completion.
    • Data includes but is not limited to surveys, grades, and clearances.
  • Responsible for using office p-card to make purchases and support the office.
    • Responsible for reconciling p-card purchases on a monthly basis and submitting report of purchases to the university.
  • Serve as the back-up in greeting a diverse population of current and prospective students, staff, and faculty.
    • Greet visitors in a culturally responsive manner by responding to basic student questions, directing students to the proper advisor or office, and assisting students with making appointments.

Requirements

Equivalent to five years of administrative support experience. Preferred Experience with student support services as a student or staff member.

  • Knowledge of the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing and general credential program requirements.
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills, including demonstrated patience, professionalism, work ethic, and follow-through.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and to be a team player.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to collaborate with administrators, staff, and faculty in a support role.
  • Knowledge of grammar, punctuation and spelling at a level appropriate to this position.
  • Experience successfully working with populations that are demographically and socioeconomically similar to CSULB.
  • Provide evidence of taking initiative in creating solutions, supporting projects, and improving communications.
  • Willingness to engage in staff professional development activities.
  • Demonstrated interest in supporting student success.
  • Knowledge of and experience with MS Excel, MS Word, PeopleSoft.
  • Knowledge of and experience with university policies and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community.
  • Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures.
  • Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."

Pay

The CSU Classification Salary Range for this position is $4,367 (Step #1) - $6,362(Step #20) per month.

Schedule

Department Student Success and Advising Center Time Base 1.0 time-base, 40 hours per week.
