Dental Assisting Adjunct Faculty

About the Role

Wytheville Community College is seeking a part-time adjunct dental assisting instructor to support the Dental Hygiene/Dental Assisting Program. The adjunct faculty member will report to the Dental Hygiene/Dental Assisting Program Head and may be assigned teaching duties during the day, evening, and/or using distance learning formats. Responsibilities include instructing dental assisting students in laboratory instruction and evaluation, supporting ancillary program policies and procedures, assisting other faculty within the Dental Programs, and participating in team instructor calibration meetings.

Responsibilities

• Instruct dental assisting students in laboratory settings.
• Evaluate student performance in laboratory instruction.
• Support and uphold program policies and procedures.
• Assist other faculty members within the Dental Programs.
• Participate in team instructor calibration meetings.

Requirements

• Must be a dental hygienist with dental assisting experience or a dental assistant with X-ray Certification.
• Current CPR certification for Healthcare Professionals.
• Proficiency in digital radiography and dental patient software.
• Demonstrated student-centered approach.
• Ability to interact professionally with a broad range of people both on and off campus.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Understanding of the diverse needs of community college students.
• Commitment to the philosophy and mission of the community college.
• Willingness to improve instruction through professional development, including pedagogy and technology.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous community college teaching experience.
• Demonstrated record of teaching excellence.
• Equivalent of three (3) years of full-time clinical practice experience within the past five (5) years.
• Preferred credentials: RDH (Registered Dental Hygienist), CDA (Certified Dental Assistant), or RDA (Registered Dental Assistant).

Pay

$700-$1,000 per credit hour, based on experience and education.
