Dental Assisting Adjunct Faculty

About the role

Wytheville Community College is seeking a part-time adjunct dental hygiene instructor who will report to the Dental Hygiene/Dental Assisting Program Head. Adjunct Faculty are employed on a term-by-term basis and may be assigned teaching duties during the day, evening, and/or using distance learning formats.

Responsibilities

• Instruct dental assisting students in laboratory instruction and evaluation
• Support ancillary program policies and procedures
• Assist other faculty within the Dental Programs
• Participate in team instructor calibration meetings
• May be required to perform other duties as assigned
• May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor

Required Qualifications

• Dental hygienist with dental assisting experience OR a dental assistant with X-ray Certification
• Current CPR certification for Healthcare Professionals
• Proficient in digital radiography and dental patient software
• Demonstrated student centeredness
• Ability to interact with a broad range of people both on and off campus in a professional manner
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Understanding of the range of needs community college students represent
• Commitment to the philosophy and mission of the community college
• Willingness to improve instruction through professional development including pedagogy and technology

Additional Considerations

• Preference given to those with previous community college experience and demonstrated record of teaching excellence
• Equivalent of three (3) years of full-time clinical practice experience within the past five (5) years is desired
• Preferred credentials include: RDH, CDA, or RDA

May be required to travel for training.

Hiring Range: $700-$1,000 per credit hour based on experience and education
