Dental Assistant, CF - Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility (RJD)

Job Description and Duties

Effective July 1, 2025, in accordance with the applicable Memorandum of Understanding, the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) was implemented in response to the status of the State budget. PLP 2025 requires each full-time employee in Bargaining Unit 20, and related Excluded, Exempt and Statutory Exempt employees, will have their base salary reduced by 3 percent and will receive 5 PLP 2025 leave credits monthly through June 2027. Salaries do not reflect the recent changes. Part-time employees are subject to the same conditions as full-time employees, on a prorated basis equivalent to their time-base. Permanent intermittent employees are subject to the same condition as full-time employees, based on the number of hours worked in the pay period.

This is a limited term position which may be extended or become permanent. Under the supervision of the Supervising Dentist, Correctional Facility (CF), and/or Supervising Dental Assistant, CF, and the clinical direction of the Dentist, CF, the Dental Assistant, CF performs supportive dental procedures under the guidelines and regulations set forth by the Dental Board of California Dental Practice Act, and the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) Dental Program, Health Care Department Operations Manual (HCDOM), policies and procedures.

• Aids in the related work of a dental office.
• Maintains order and supervises the conduct of the incarcerated and directs their duties.
• Protects and maintains the safety of persons and property.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of a recognized training program in dental assisting.
• Current certification as a Dental Assistant in California.
• Knowledge of the principles and practices of dental hygiene.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
• Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment.

Pay

The starting salary range for this position is $48,000 - $52,000 annually. Final salary will be determined based on qualifications and experience.

Schedule

The schedule for this position is typically Monday through Friday, with occasional evening and weekend shifts as needed.
