About the role

The position supports the day-to-day operation of the School of Dental Medicine Clinical Dental Teams by serving as a Dental Assistant. Under the direction of licensed dentists, the Dental Assistant uses four-handed dentistry assisting techniques to assist student doctors and faculty dentists in various procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Use four-handed dentistry assisting techniques to assist student doctors and faculty dentists in diagnostic, preventive, restorative, periodontal, endodontic, oral surgery, and prosthodontic procedures.
  • Apply sterile technique and infection control throughout procedures.
  • Perform advanced-level chairside functions including exposing radiographs, retracting tissue, suctioning debris, placing/removing rubber dams, removing sutures and excess cement, administering topical anesthetics (non-aerosol), and taking impressions.
  • Avoid patient dismissal without faculty dentist approval after performing advanced-level chairside functions.
  • Maintain accurate patient records using dental software, applying working knowledge of insurance processes and medical terminology.
  • Collaborate with students, faculty, and staff while adapting to various clinic operations and special projects as assigned.
  • Manage dental supply inventory, restocking and disposing of sharps/hazardous materials per State, Federal, and OSHA guidelines.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent education and one year of experience in a dental practice using four-handed techniques in a wide range of procedures, collecting and recording patient’s medical information, exposing, processing, mounting and labeling radiographs, and applying dental sterile techniques and infectious control and exposure procedures.
  • Or graduation from high school or equivalent education, successful completion of a recognized one-year dental assistant training program, and one year of experience working with the public collecting and recording information and/or explaining and clarifying basic information.
  • One year of experience as a Dental Assistant I in Nevada State service.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.

Monday thru Friday, 8am to 5pm at the Shadow Lane Campus.
