About the role
The Dementia Specialist at CareOne at Jackson is responsible for planning and coordinating a therapeutic program schedule, assessing resident characteristics, and maintaining a sense of teamwork through effective communications and interactions.
Responsibilities
- Plans and coordinates a therapeutic program schedule to meet the needs of residents.
- Affords assessments of resident characteristics and collaborates with other departments to plan and organize program content.
- Maintains daily functioning of units to ensure continuity and appropriate changes in the program.
- Develops and maintains a cooperative relationship with other department directors and informs staff regarding program and integrates it with other services.
- Participates in support groups and educates staff regarding program and dementia-specific knowledge.
- Ensures program continuation for new staff unit members and markets the unit through involvement in community organizations.
- Reviews and coordinates unit social work and recreation services to ensure compliance with program standards.
- Serves as a role model for staff regarding care of dementia unit and treats residents with respect and dignity.
- Communicates immediately to the Administrator concerning suspected, alleged, or actual resident abuse.
- Performs initial pre-admission assessment of potential residents and assists with their admission to ensure a smooth transition.
- Assists with the adjustment of residents and families to the facility and contacts them weekly for the first month after admission.
- Keeps abreast of current research, new programs, and community resources which may benefit residents and families and makes appropriate referrals.
- Provides orientation and in-service training to community personnel regarding social/emotional needs of Alzheimer's residents.
- Communicates immediately to the Administrator concerning suspected, alleged, or actual resident abuse.
Requirements
- Education: Degree in Nursing, PT, or OT.
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience in a supervisory capacity in a hospital, nursing care facility, or other related field.

Skills
Knowledge of Alzheimer's/Dementia, ability to communicate effectively, and experience in a supervisory role.
