The Role

Deck electricians are largely responsible for the installation, repair, overhaul, and operational testing of the electrical systems aboard the ship. Electricians can be working on one of the many electrical systems aboard the ship including lighting, power distribution, communication or navigation. Electricians read and interpret complex electrical and electronic schematics. The job of an electrician is unique in that it requires an individual that can quickly switch between differing tasks ranging from lighting and receptacle hook-ups, installing wire way racks, rebuilding equipment, installing electronic controls, lighting maintenance, performing preventative maintenance, or welding of studs for mounting equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Install, repair, overhaul, and operationally test electrical systems aboard the ship
  • Work on lighting, power distribution, communication, or navigation systems
  • Read and interpret complex electrical and electronic schematics
  • Switch between differing tasks including lighting and receptacle hook-ups, installing wire way racks, rebuilding equipment, installing electronic controls, lighting maintenance, performing preventative maintenance, or welding of studs for mounting equipment

Requirements

  • Willing to undergo a background investigation and drug screen
  • Able to pass physical agility test
  • Able to kneel, squat, crawl, bend, stoop, and climb on a daily basis
  • Able to lift at least 40 pounds
  • Able to perform overhead work
  • Able to work at extreme heights
  • Able to perform work outdoors, year-round, in all weather conditions
  • Able to work in small, tight, confined spaces
  • Able to take measurements or be willing to learn
  • Willing to work in radiation areas (with appropriate training and equipment)
  • Able to be clean shaven to wear a respirator
  • Able to work overtime as needed
  • Willing to work any shift
  • At least 1 year of experience as a commercial, residential, industrial or marine electrician / related experience in mechanical, carpentry, auto mechanics, roofing or computer/IT / related military experience

Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent preferred
  • Successful completion of an electrical, technical, mechanical or vocational program; related military training preferred

Pay

$66,996.80 to $85,196.80

Schedule

Multiple shifts available; must be willing to work any shift and overtime as needed.
