Position Responsibilities
- Sets up and operates weapons detection system (walk-through and handheld), screening students and all school visitors.
- Greets and runs security (scan) stations as students enter the building(s), cafeteria, and events.
- Supervises students in the hallways, restrooms, and cafeteria, as well as upon boarding and exiting school buses.
- Conducts hallway sweeps of tardy students and supervises excessively tardy students.
- Conducts student searches and locker searches with dean of students and police liaison when necessary.
- Escorts students and visitors through the building when necessary.
- Removes students from classrooms when requested by teachers.
- Conducts mediations and restorative circles at the request of students, deans, administration or other staff.
- Helps students resolve attendance and truancy problems when they interfere with the students' academic progress and success.
- Logs student infractions, referrals and mediations in Student Information System (SIS).
- De-escalates student conflicts and breaks up physical altercations between students.
- Assists deans with paperwork for minor infractions (tardies, no-show teacher detentions, no-show deans' detentions).
- Provides supervision and security on school days and for the following events: Board of Education meetings, basketball/football/volleyball home games, Hillcrest basketball away games, Thanksgiving basketball tournament, SSC wrestling tournament, homecoming tailgate/dance, winter dances, prom, graduation, winter and spring musical/play/drama performances, freshman orientation, PPS parent nights, futures night, and Esports events as needed.
Essential Skills And Experience
- Knowledge of basic office procedures and operation of office machines/equipment.
- Must be discreet and maintain strict confidentiality on student matters.
- Ability to read, write, and converse fluently in English to effectively communicate with staff, students, families, and other visitors.
- Maintain courtesy and professionalism with colleagues, parents, students, and other visitors.

Terms Of Employment
- 10-month work year as defined in the AFT/IFT Local 943 collective bargaining agreement.
- Starting wage between $17.86 - $19.65/hour, based on education and verified experience (wages expected to increase by more than 20% with the new collective bargaining agreement in July/August).
