About the Role
Sullivan University is seeking a full-time Dean of Nursing to provide vision, leadership, and management for the College of Nursing. This position is based in Louisville and requires regular travel to the Lexington location throughout the quarter.
Responsibilities
- Curriculum and Assessment:
- Develops, implements, and administers goals and processes that facilitate and assess continuous improvement of all programs and student learning outcomes in accordance with program assessment plans.
- Works with Program Directors to prepare and present annual assessment of student learning and continuous improvement activities to the University’s Planning and Evaluation Coordinating Council (PECC).
- Evaluates, develops, and maintains all area-specific curriculum in cooperation with the respective faculty, the Provost, and the Curriculum Committee.
- Oversees the development and maintenance of area-specific syllabi in conjunction with the Program Directors.
- Ensures course descriptions and objectives of syllabi match the catalog.
- Ensures the master course syllabi repository is up to date.
- Ensures instructors utilize the learning management system and curriculum as directed in accordance with course objectives, student learning outcomes, and within faculty academic freedom guidelines.
- Oversees the selection of area-specific course open educational resources, text materials, OER, equipment, library support materials, technology, etc.
- In collaboration with the Program Directors and faculty, conducts regular departmental and curriculum review meetings; submits minutes on a quarterly basis to the Provost.
- Scheduling:
- Works with Program Directors to prepare annual class schedules and instructor quarterly class assignment schedules for programs, finalizing both with the Executive Director of Academic Operations and Institutional Effectiveness.
- Final quarterly instructor class assignment schedules should be approved by the Provost.
- In collaboration with the assigned academic leadership and University Registrar, ensures course offerings are appropriate and efficiently meet the needs of the institution.
- Faculty:
- Conducts, with assistance of Program Directors and Provost, faculty (i.e., full-time, part-time, and adjunct) course/classroom observations.
- Creates and conducts annual faculty performance reviews with assistance of the Program Directors.
- Hires and supervises faculty with the assistance of the Program Directors.
- In collaboration with the Program Directors and Provost, ensures faculty course assignments are appropriate based on documented faculty credentials.
- Ensures all assigned faculty members teach appropriate course loads (based on the teaching load rubric) and perform faculty member functions as indicated on the faculty job description.
- Verifies class assignment eligibility and supervises faculty (i.e., full and part-time) from other colleges when teaching courses within the assigned college program-specific curricula.
- Other:
- Promotes academic programs offered by the college, internally and externally.
- Ensures all programs, curriculum, and faculty are accurate within institutional catalog/catalog addendum errata, website, and other published materials.
- Works in conjunction with respective faculty and Program Directors to ensure compliance with accrediting and other regulatory criteria/standards as it relates to course and program offerings.
- Promotes a productive academic environment for faculty and students.
- In collaboration with the Program Directors, facilitates the resolution of student issues and course-related grievances.
- In collaboration with the Program Directors and Provost, ensures classroom and equipment are available to achieve goals of classroom instruction.
- In addition to management/administrative duties, teaches course load as assigned by the Provost and performs functions of a faculty member as indicated on the faculty job description.
- Serves as a member of the Academic Council and other committees as assigned.
- In collaboration with the Program Directors, oversees an external college advisory committee to support the needs of the academic programs.
- Administers and participates in the faculty professional development program for the College of Nursing.
- Assists in providing accommodations to students with ADA issues and ensuring faculty involvement when appropriate.
- Promotes the University in cooperation with the Admissions Department as necessary.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Minimum of a master’s degree in a related field (preferred).
- An active KY or multi-state unencumbered registered nursing license is required.
- Extensive practitioner and leadership experience; experience in higher education preferred.
- An equivalent combination of education and work experience may be considered.
- Excellent verbal, interpersonal, and written communication, problem-solving, and customer service skills required.
- Knowledge of Microsoft programs such as Excel, Word, Outlook, and Explorer required.
- Ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously and efficiently while meeting required deadlines.
- Knowledgeable in programmatic material for the department.
- Ability to function efficiently in a stressful work environment.
- Must be able to sit and/or stand for extended periods and move about the campus.
- Must be able to hear and speak well enough to communicate with students, faculty, and staff face-to-face and via telephone.
